The UCLA Immunogenetics Center, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, University of California, Los Angeles seeks applications for Director of the Immune Assessment Laboratory. The Immune Assessment Laboratory is a CLIA-approved laboratory that works collaboratively with investigators to design and develop immunological assays for clinical studies, clinical trials and translational research. The director will be responsible for the scientific direction and management of laboratory operations. Professional duties include scientific direction and management of Immune Assessment Core Laboratory operations: 1) maintain a state of the art CLIA laboratory providing immunologic assays and testing services and to reliably monitor and quantify human immune responses including cell-mediated immune function assays, multiparameter flow cytometry immunophenotyping, cytokine measurements by Luminex and ELISA and measurements of humoral immunity, 2) provide technical expertise and investigator support for project design and data interpretation, 3) establish standard operating procedures and quality control measures for all immunologic assays, 4) interpret and manage data, and 5) train and supervise staff. A Ph.D., M.D., M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Immunology, Immunogenetics or related field is required. Evidence of scientific accomplishment and 5 years or more of experience in immunological techniques used to characterize the human immune response is required. Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential. A working familiarity with the clinical laboratory field is desirable. The candidate will teach residents and fellow, and will be expected to contribute creatively to research and scholarly projects. Faculty appointment will be commensurate with experience.
