About Telling It

Telling It is a trauma-informed resiliency-building community-based program that supports the healing and learning needs of school-age youth using best practices from social work and education filtered through the expressive arts so they can lead safe, healthy and productive lives. Telling It is designed to meet the needs of the youth so they can reach their full potential as engaged community members. The after-school program sessions are youth driven and offer a safe, censorship and judgement-free environment in which youth can process their hurts and practice healthy coping skills. Overview of Position

The qualified candidate will act in support and assist the Telling It Site Facilitator to provide specialist feedback about the youth that meet in age-appropriate groups that range from 7-18 years of age. Trainee will counsel individual youth if necessary including initiating the intervention of Child Protective Services if appropriate, and; contributing their assessment of the group and individual participants during the de-briefing meetings that follow each Telling It session. The participation of the Social Worker Trainee provides the Telling It team with a holistic approach to fine tuning the weekly sessions that are designed to meet the social emotional needs of the youth.

This position is part-time, no benefits, term limited.

Responsibilities*
Trainee will learn to
  • Check in with the team's Site Leader on a regular basis.
  • Provide specialist support to the Telling It team.
  • Consult with the team to determine if the needs of the youth are being met.
  • Co-lead the pre- and de-briefing sessions with the support team.
  • Administer intake, mid-point and exit evaluation surveys.
  • As the designated mandated reporter, intervene and follow up with youth when appropriate.

Required Qualifications*
  • Successfully complete a criminal background check.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Reliability is critical to this position. Arrive fully prepared to participate in the session.
  • Check in with Telling It Site Facilitator, Senior Telling It Social Worker and Program Director on regular basis.
  • In the event Social Worker Trainee is not able to participate in a session, arrangements will be made 24 hours in advance with the Program Director and Site Facilitator.

Desired Qualifications*
Desirable Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed pedagogies and the current research into the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences on the healthy development of children.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills with the ability to provide written and oral reports.
  • Ability to work effectively with youth from different races, ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientation and gender identities and differently-abled.
  • Demonstrate maturity and ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to problem-solve issues.
  • Ability to exercise compassion, professionalism, and discretion with material of highly sensitive or confidential nature.
  • Working knowledge of Telling It is preferred.
  • Demonstrate passion for the Telling It mission and for an environment that promotes best practices, social justice, and creativity.

Work Schedule
Mondays 3:30-6:45pm working with 7 to 11 year old youth

Thursdays 1:30-8:30pm working with 13 to 18 year old youth
