Humanities Center

Position Description
The Humanities Center at Texas Tech University invites applications for its Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Humanities, to be held over the 2022-2023 academic year, beginning on September 1, 2022.

This fellowship is open to all recent PhDs across humanities disciplines, but the Center will prioritize applicants whose work complements our recent scholarly emphases and research strengths, including social justice, environmental studies, anti-racism, and public health. We are also interested in receiving applications from scholars whose work might contribute to the theme of Borders and Belonging, one of a series of institutional strategic research themes identified by TTU's Office of Research and Innovation. Visit the Borders and Belonging website.

Major/Essential Functions
The visiting fellow will be expected to:
work in residence on the TTU Lubbock campus on a full-time basis during the award tenure;
prepare and deliver to the TTU community a 45-minute public talk on their research in the Spring 2023;
attend Humanities Center events, including public talks and receptions, during the tenure of the award.

The Fellow will be provided with an office and computer at the Humanities Center and full library privileges, including access to special collections, online databases, and inter-library loan services. Housing is not included, but the Humanities Center can assist with finding it if requested. The Center's visiting scholar will be paired with two faculty mentors at Texas Tech: one directly aligned with the Fellow's field of research study, and a second at-large mentor available for broad consultation about the academic profession. This fellowship is primarily intended to support new research in the humanities, and as such, the fellow will have no assigned teaching with this position.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree or specialized academic training beyond the Bachelor's level in a particular field or equivalent to a Master's degree. Scholars in any humanities field are welcome to apply, but special consideration will be given to applicants who plan to use libraries, archives, and other resources at Texas Tech and/or the Lubbock area.

The selected Fellow must hold the Ph.D. by the start of the award, but must not have earned the degree before 2018. The Center will also prioritize scholars with experience working in under-represented communities and/or with topics specific to the challenges faced by under-represented communities.
