Position Description
Performs specialized Post Doctoral work in the planning, conducting and/or supervision of original research. Responsible for participating in a research project associated with PhD studies and the interpretation of the results of publication. Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: plan and carry out field and greenhouse experiments (collect, analysis, interpret data), produce peer-reviewed publications of ongoing and previously conducted research, provide support for current and future research projects, supervise and interact with undergraduate / graduate students and technicians, write reports and research grants, collaborate with members of the TTU Department of Plant and Soil Science and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, and additional duties as assigned. This position will be based in Lubbock, Texas. Majority of work will be split between lab, office, greenhouse, and field environments. Activities will be divided into two separate projects:
  • Strawberry research: strawberry field experiments within Texas investigating influence of fertilizers, irrigation, and shade cloth on strawberry production
  • Viticulture research: plan and carry out field and greenhouse experiments investigating influence of phenoxy herbicides on wine grape growth and production



Required Qualifications
PhD in area of project specialization Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions and other outcomes. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to plan and allocate the workload of employees, providing direct training and supervision as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Earned Ph.D. in horticulture, agriculture, crop science, or closely related field
Experience, skill, and knowledge of herbicide chemistry, production irrigation, plant physiology (excellent understanding of methodologies for measuring / estimating plant water status and gas exchange), and field research techniques
Demonstrated publication record (excellent writing skills)
Expertise in experimental design and statistical analysis
Proven work ethic
Proficiency in use of computer and software applications
Demonstrated proficiency of oral and written English
Self-motivated, and ability to work unsupervised
Currently hold, or have ability to obtain a valid drivers license
Willingness to travel
Capability to work in uncomfortable outdoor conditions (snow, rain, extreme heat and cold)
Carry up to 60 pounds (27 kg
