Job Description

The Career Services Center at Nevada State (NS) seeks to fill Career Ambassador positions within the department. We are interested in applicants who are motivated, able to learn new skills quickly, enjoy helping others, and are detail-oriented. Interested applicants should be comfortable with a high level of responsibility and in good academic standing. Professionalism and a willingness to help others is a must. Career Ambassadors must possess excellent communication (both written and verbal) skills as well as an ability to connect with diverse individuals.

Career Ambassadors will be an integral component in providing career development services to NSC students. Career Ambassadors will be required to go through ongoing paid training prior to the start of each semester. Career Ambassadors would assist with managing the marketing of career development events, overseeing student and alumni outreach, research and data analysis, scheduling appointments, answering phone calls and emails, creating flyers and marketing material, managing the office's social media accounts, planning and attending career events, facilitate classroom presentations, and other duties as assigned.

Core Responsibilities:

Customer Service & Student Success Support
  • Assist with drop-in advising appointments related to general career support such as; help with online career platforms (e.g. Handshake; how to log-in.), informing students of CSC resources and events, etc.
  • Provide friendly and attentive customer service, greeting and assisting students.
  • Conduct outreach to follow-up on CSC events, services provided, etc.


Event Planning & Facilitation
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of various projects and initiatives, including large-scale events such as career fairs.
  • Give presentations to NSC classes on the center's resources and services.
  • Conduct pop-up tabling on campus to inform students of our services and direct them to our office.


Marketing Support
  • Manage marketing and events within the department including flyer design, advertisement management, and creating events calendars.
  • Oversee department social media account management including developing marketing campaign concepts and monitoring post analytics.


General Administrative Duties
  • Conduct data analysis and compile reports for programming and initiatives.
  • Create, print and restock office materials/handouts.
  • Conduct research for new department programs, initiatives and resources upon request.
  • Support inventory process for office's Career Closet.
  • Support management of departmental online platforms including posting job and internship opportunities on our Handshake college career networking site.


Other Duties as Assigned
  • Students will have the opportunity to propose and /or co-develop new role responsibilities based on their skill set and interests. Each student will be assigned responsibilities that align with both departmental need and student career aspirations.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be in good academic standing with a 2.5 minimum GPA.
  • Must be an NSC degree-seeking student enrolled in at least 6 college level credits each semester employed.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (NSC does not sponsor employment-related visas).
  • Must commit to working 10 - 19.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, primarily between the hours of 8am-5pm; must attend all required training sessions.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude, demonstrate excellent customer services skills and foster a welcoming rapport with students, alumni, faculty, staff and employers.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills including writing, proofreading and editing.
  • Exhibit leadership and initiative; be dependable, display self-discipline and professionalism.
  • Must demonstrate ability to maintain FERPA standards and manage sensitive information.
  • Be sensitive and responsive to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and on a team.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs with proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with social media management and/or graphic design.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation a plus.
  • Knowledge of available student support services at NSC.
  • Able to work flexible hours (some evenings/weekends).


Work Hours:

Student employees can work up to 19.5 hours per week.

Career Ambassadors commit to working 15-19.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, primarily between the hours of 8am-5pm. Occasionally, Career Ambassadors will be asked to work weeknights and/or weekends to assist with career-related events. It is important that your schedule includes a substantial amount of open time between these hours. Career Ambassadors are required to attend paid training prior to the beginning of their start date as well as the prior to the beginning of each fall semester.

Hourly Rate:

$12.50 per hour.
