PURPOSE:

Reporting to and under the general supervision of the Student Disability Resources (SDR) Director and day-to-day work direction of the SDR Office Coordinator, the Student Accommodations Coordinator works to provide disability access, universal design and related services to assist students supported by SDR in making successful progress toward their degree objectives. The Accommodations Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and performing direct services such as Reception, Alternate Media Production, Alternative Testing, Classroom Furniture and Equipment Loan. This team member works with a high degree of self-direction while responding to student requests for services, problem-solving any challenges with accommodation implementation, and supporting communications at multiple levels. The Accommodations Coordinator leads projects and service improvements for students with learning, psychological, physical and/or intellectual disabilities. Performs duties as a member of the Health and Wellness Services team and the Division of Student Affairs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Coordinate support services to students with disabilities authorized by SDR Disability Resources Advisors such as: alternative testing, alternate media, notetaking, furniture placement in classrooms, equipment loans, and voter registration. Use judgment, discretion and accuracy for proper processing of confidential materials, which may include student information, medical and educational reports, and service notes. Interpret, apply and uphold a wide range of University policies and procedures. Perform data entry and process data analysis for various services in multiple spreadsheets, create and run reports and queries, maintain database integrity and adhere to system operations. Support SDR employees, interns and contractors in a variety of activities.
  • Provide front line customer service: respond professionally and effectively in person, via telephone, and Internet to inquiries from students, faculty, staff, guests and community members about disability-related services; resolve questions and refer complex or unresolved issues to staff and supervisor as needed; frequently use various online scheduling programs; monitor department email and voice mail accounts; and client file preparation. Mentor and direct work flow of student assistants; draft evaluations as needed. Maintain confidentiality and neat, organized work areas.
  • Support Office Coordinator in SDR student information management system duties: assist with training SDR users (employees, students and faculty) in Symplicity Accommodate database; provide recommendations about SDR services and operations. Work with SDR staff to refresh documentation and training methods about digital and paper data processes and feedback systems for SDR accommodation requests and implementation in consultation with key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate technology-based accommodations for student with disabilities including assistive technology services, alternate media, video captioning, video remote sign language and / or real-time captioning; determine solutions to ensure academic accommodations meet legal standards. Coordinate department accessible technology initiatives and services in consultation with SDR staff, CSUMB's Center for Academic Technologies, IT, Student Information Systems, etc. In collaboration with the Office Coordinator will assist with complex research and analysis of information. Gather information and coordinate follow-up for a broad portfolio of services. Update SDR documents and website per CSU and 508 accessibility guidelines.
  • Assist in tracking SDR budget expenditures and inventory, and preparation of official documents related to personnel, budget, payroll, purchasing, and reports. Duties may include extensive data entry requiring accuracy and high-speed production using tools such as Google, Oracle-PeopleSoft/CMS for student information, Symplicity Accommodate, Excel, CFS, and Survey Monkey.
  • Coordinate and assist logistics of various projects and activities; provide oversight of event set-up.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of: correct English, including grammar, spelling, punctuation, and editing; office systems and ability to use a broad range of technology, systems, and packages. Detailed knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn applicable university infrastructure, policies and procedures. Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures. Experience to be fully functional in all technical aspects of work assignments.
Ability to: quickly acquire a thorough, detailed knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures; make sound independent decisions and recommendations based on current policies and procedures and a thorough analysis of current situations; independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects under strict deadlines; apply a wide variety of policies and procedures where specific guidelines may not exist; perform standard business math, such as calculate ratios and percentages, track financial data and make simple projections; draft and compose correspondence and standard reports; effectively handle a broad range of interpersonal contacts, including those at the highest level and those requiring strict confidentiality; address common and unique problems using reasoning and judgement to develop practical, thorough, and creative solutions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse, academic environment. Exceptional ability to communicate verbally and in writing, a professional, persuasive and tactful manner.

Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite. These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office.

Specialized Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Must be willing to learn: Adobe applications for ensuring document accessibility and fillable forms; Google Drive; CMS Oasis; and Symplicity Accommodate if not already proficient. Strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of professionalism. Impeccable oral and written communication skills, particularly with vocabulary and grammar. Attention to detail is extremely critical. Excellent time management and organizational skills. Strong ability to establish and maintain professional working relationship, address effectively a broad range of people and situations, and work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:
Technical fluency with Oracle/PeopleSoft, CSU Common Management System or equivalent student information system; Microsoft Office Professional Suite, and Google mail and calendaring programs. Familiarity with assistive technologies used by university students with disabilities. Experience serving individuals with disabilities. Familiarity with the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) professional standards and Code of Ethics pertaining to duties in this position. Demonstrated knowledge of CSU infrastructure and relevant software programs.
