Job Summary

Gathers, analyzes, and interprets a wide variety of data. Selects data samples, prepares questionnaires, and analyzes collected information according to established statistical methods. Prepares reports, charts, tables, and other visual aids. 5-8 years professional experience. Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of particular field of specialization to the completion of complex assignments. May cross fields. Recommends changes in procedures. Labor market typical education and experience: Employees in this classification are required to have a minimum of a Bachelor degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position. Employees typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree. Under FLSA, this is the exempt job classification for this title. Incumbents in this position must meet the full criteria for exempt status: salary level, salary basis, and duties tests.

    Responsibilities*

    This position involves responsibilities for a wide range of statistical analysis, programming, and data management related to research based on large clinical registry databases, local clinical data sources, and national claims data (e.g., Medicare, SEER-Medicare). The position will have responsibility to help grow the clinical research enterprise in the department, including but not limited to increasing analyst grant coverage by participating in study design and grant submissions for clinical researchers. In addition to the department-related responsibilities, the individual in this position will serve as a primary analyst for the Michigan Urological Surgery Improvement Collaborative (MUSIC), a physician-led quality improvement program comprised of 90% of the urologists in the state that is focused on improving the quality and cost-efficiency of urologic care for patients in Michigan. Tri-annual collaborative-wide meetings are held each year to discuss data, review risk-adjusted measures of processes of care and patient outcomes and identify strategies and best practices for quality improvement.



    Specifically, the position involves:


    • Writing and editing programs to clean, manage, merge, and analyze data with meticulous attention to detail.
    • Preparing and maintaining technical documentation of data and analysis files.
    • Preparing SAS analytic datasets.
    • Develop and deliver written, graphical, and/or verbal presentations of the data
    • Develop automated solutions for delivering comprehensive performance reports to participating clinical registry (MUSIC) physicians
    • Contributing to study reports by providing statistical analyses of study data and preparing tables and data displays.
    • Contributing to funding proposals by providing descriptions of relevant data management, programming, and analytic functions.
    • Working with other team members to generate study progress reports.
    • Participate in all activities related to data quality, integrity, analysis, and reporting
    • Participate in the preparation of government and industry grant applications.
    • Participate in the preparation of medical manuscripts, including writing and editing statistical methods and results.
    • Development of research trial designs, including performing power analyses and/or simulations and writing statistical sections of research protocols.
    • Provide design and analytic guidance to departmental faculty, staff, fellows and residents.
    • Support educational activities within division regarding analytic approaches.

    Required Qualifications*
    • Master's degree in biostatistics, statistics, or equivalent.
    • Prior experience in the medical research field preferred.
    • More than 5 years professional experience.
