About the Position:
The Athletics department at Cal State Fullerton strives to provide an intercollegiate athletics program that is an integral part of the total educational experience at CSUF and fits within the overall mission of the University. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Sports Media Specialist (Public Affairs/Communication Specialist III). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the general supervision of the Senior Associate Director of Athletics, the Sports Media Specialist administers the dissemination of information regarding the intercollegiate athletics program. Provides direction for staff, plan coverage, provides media relations materials, and serves as media liaison for all fifteen intercollegiate athletic teams. Represents Sports Media in developing a communications plan that will increase the visibility and brand for the Athletic Department as well as the University. Works with University Strategic Communications to plan and coordinate all major press conferences and media requests for the Athletic Department. Responsible for continued development of desktop publishing's technical capabilities and Internet publicity, including website and social media for Intercollegiate Athletics. Designs and maintains editorial and graphic content on intercollegiate athletics website using html, Dreamweaver, and Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Other duties as assigned.



Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree of the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field. Two years of related professional or technical experience. Knowledge of the fundamentals of public affairs and/or media relations, as well as some exposure to marketing and marketing research. Possession of strong written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and the composition of various communication vehicles. Ability to develop themes and concepts and oversee the creation of content and communication materials. Comprehensive knowledge of marketing and research techniques and methods. Ability to use market research to enhance the impact of communication strategies and campaigns. Working knowledge of appropriate use of statistical techniques. Possession of expert-level networking and interpersonal skills including strong consultative and persuasive skills to work with internal and external constituents and the media. Possession of expert writing and editorial skills, as well as demonstrated organizational skills.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
