Mentoring and service programs create a sense of belonging, engage students with their community, benefit their personal and educational growth, and serve to provide a structure for academic success, especially for first-generation students.

These programs create a direct link between CSN students and our business, non-profit, and government communities and impacts economic development.
  • The Specialist position exists to provide high-level support for the Manager and Coordinators to complete the objectives and activities of the CSN Nevada Promise Program. In addition, the position supports mentors, facilitators, volunteers and, student workers in the completion of Nevada Promise activities. It provides support to students, parents, and the community by coordinating services and projects, providing administrative support, tracking information and data, and providing guidance as needed.
  • The Specialist may also assist and/or participate with staff in the development and implementation of activities related to Promise, including the logistics, calendaring, contacting, setup and overall organization of mentoring and community service activities for prospective and current Promise students.
  • The Specialist will also conduct research, gather data, track activities, coordinate calendars, follow up with internal and external contacts, to ensure effective and timely completion of activities. It will support Coordinators and Manager with internal and external communication regarding the Nevada Promise Program.
  • The Specialist works with various software platforms to issue mass communications.
  • This position should be prepared to help students, parents, and community members from a variety of backgrounds about Nevada Promise eligibility requirements, next steps, etc.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from a regionally accredited college/university OR an equivalent combination education and experience.
  • 1 year of experience in higher education or a related area.


The duties, knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
  • In-depth knowledge of Promise Program legislative and institutional requirements and parameters; CCSD/K-12 regulations and procedures impacting mentoring and service programs, including Promise; FERPA rules governing privacy; NSHE and community college policies and procedures; barriers faced by underrepresented college students; follow-up processes; and greater Las Vegas community.
  • Skills in conception, management, planning, organizing, and execution of events, workshops, and programs.
  • Proficient with software applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and basic use of Adobe Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; strong interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to work independently; work in a team; establish and maintain relationships with faculty and campus staff.
  • Ability to organize, lead and conduct meetings; solve problems; derive strategies and action items from complex verbal and written information.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts; conduct workshops; research, identify and implement best practices of mentoring, service, equity and inclusion; write reports; handle budgets; interpret and implement college policies and procedures; maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Work with a diverse student and employee population including all identities, ethnicities, cultures and national origins; manage, prioritize, and complete multiple projects/tasks in an efficient and timely manner while maintaining focus on organizational goals.
  • Ability to coordinate complex program activities with internal and external stakeholders. Able to adapt to rapid change and respond to tight deadlines on a variety of tasks at the same time.


Starting Salary Range

Administrative Faculty

The minimum starting salary is $39,123. The successful candidate may be placed above the minimum based on education and experience.
