Job Description:
The Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Social Work is seeking a faculty member who will bring their expertise in clinical mental health practice and administration, clinical supervision, and anti-oppressive/diversity-affirming social work practice to our advanced generalist MSW Program and Center for Rural Behavioral Health Clinic. This position will have 0.5FTE in the MSW Program and 0.5 FTE in the Clinic providing supervision and oversight of MSW students. The position is principally assigned to the MSW Program. Our Advanced Generalist MSW Program is year-round, Friday/Saturday, with courses offered through blended delivery; 60 percent on-campus and 40 percent on-line.
  • A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.



  • The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.

  • May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university's additional locations, as assigned.

  • The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.

  • All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement).

  • This position will supervise/advise graduate students.

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching graduate courses in generalist and advanced generalist social work practice commensurate with their areas of expertise.

  • .05 FTE working at the Clinic supervising and overseeing MSW practicum students. Responsibilities will include developing practicum learning opportunities at the generalist and specialist year MSW levels, with an emphasis on clinical mental health; contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of interdisciplinary education/training for students and staff; contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of programming policies and procedures that supports the mission of the Clinic; and provide clinical and non-clinical licensing supervision to licensed clinical trainees within the scope of licensure.




Required Qualifications:
  • Master of Social Work degree from an accredited social work program. (Conferred on an official transcript at the time of application.)



  • Licensed to practice social work in Minnesota or license eligible.

  • Minimum of three (3) years practicing as a licensed independent clinical social worker.

  • Minimum of one (1) year providing clinical supervision.

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience supervising students in field education at the graduate and/or undergraduate level.

  • Demonstrated teaching experience (includes professional development instruction and/or in-service training).

  • Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse population and apply an equity lens to this position including social justice and/or anti-racism.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.



  • Doctorate in social work or related field. (Conferred on an official transcript at the time of application.)

  • Experience working in an integrated health setting.

  • Teaching and advising experience at the undergraduate or graduate level, preferably in social work and at the graduate level.

  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and sustain a scholarship agenda.

  • Experience in or knowledge of rural and small community social work practice.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: DEPARTMENTAL SPECIFIC INFORMATION:The MSW Program at Minnesota State University, Mankato has been accredited since 2010, with reaffirmation in 2028. The BSSW Program has been accredited since 1974. Each year, the MSW Program Graduates 24 to 34 students and the BSSW Program graduated 65 to 70 majors. The Department of Social Work consists of 14 full-time faculty and staff, supported by an administrative assistant and 7 to 8 graduate assistants. The MSW Program has an advanced generalist specialization, with an emphasis on rural and small community practice. The MSW Program supports a Title IV-E Child Welfare Program and Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Behavioral Health Initiative Workforce Training Grant funded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
