Job Summary

The Institute of Experiential AI at Northeastern University is looking for a creative, driven Social Media Manager to elevate our social media presence, content and approach. The successful candidate will join our award-winning, fast-paced marketing and content team, where they will be responsible for all social media elements. This will include managing all current organic networks and paid initiatives to identifying new social media opportunities to creating visual and written social media optimized brand and ambassador content to analytics and reporting.

The successful candidate for this role is a passionate social media subject matter expert who can seamlessly toggle between strategy and execution. The Social Media Manager must have strong writing skills, the ability to identify and stay ahead of emerging trends and be able to quickly synthesize complex information into reports for university leadership.

Social media is a key part of our overall content and marketing plan and group. The channels represent everything from our EAI offerings, people, events including EAI and industry attendance/speaking appearances and live coverage (coordinating with event, content and sales staff) and must be executed professionally and with mastery over our space, work and objectives. The Social Media Manager will report to the Associate Director of Digital Marketing and Content and Director of Marketing.

The ideal candidate will also be able to conduct research and use social listening tactics to identify areas of opportunity for effective engagement and growth. The candidate should possess advanced experience and comfort in creating eye-catching social media content customized for a range of different audiences and platforms. The ability to create innovative and effective text, photo and other content that best fits the intended social distribution platform will be critical to success in this position. A successful candidate must think and act quickly in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and representing the Institute of Experiential AI at the highest level.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree: preferably in communications, marketing or related coursework.
  • 3-5 years of experience in social media and digital media or marketing, ideally in a hi-tech context
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Medium, TikTok, Mastodon, Reddit (and new/emerging) - with a focus on how each platform can and should be utilized.
  • Expertise in social media monitoring and reporting tools (Sprinklr, Buffer)
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, PremierPro) or equivalent digital media editing tools a plus
  • Ability to not only track and report social media analytics but to also spotlight and communicate trends, gaps, issues, opportunities from the results..
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy while maintaining speed and consistency.
  • Experience with managing brand ambassador programs and content in addition to brand programs.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to use data to inform decisions.
  • Strong copy-writing and editing skills. Understanding of targeting content/approach differently per network and audience.
  • Self-starter with the ability to be proactive and set priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in higher education is not required.
  • Ability to understand historical, current, and future trends in the digital content and social media space.


Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

40% - Managing Institute social media channels - organic content creation, publishing content and community management. Engaging with industry leaders and brands, and spotlighting opportunities for EAI leads, engagement, conferences, etc. Includes live event coverage.

20% - Creating growth strategies for current and new social media channels, campaigns and boosting overall engagement.

10% - Managing paid social media activity (sponsored content, lead generation campaigns, etc)

10% - Managing and analysis of social media analytics and reporting: weekly and monthly tracking/reporting. Ability to spotlight data trends, gaps and opportunities is key.

10% - Managing (internal) brand ambassador social program, content creation, publishing and strategy
