The College at Brockport, State University of New York is accepting applications for the Senior Counselor position. The Senior Counselor plays a very important and intricate part of the Educational Opportunity Program operation. The Senior Counselor is responsible for providing support services to an assigned group of students in the areas of academic, financial, personal, social, and career development. The successful candidate filling this position will become part of a team working to provide the services necessary to achieve a high level of academic success.

Major Responsibilities

    Provides support services related to all aspects of student services and counsels assigned caseload of approximately seventy-five students. This includes areas of personal advisement, career advisement, academic advisement and financial aid.
      Counsels students in the area of financial aid. Collaborates with the Financial Aid Office and Student Accounts and Accounting concerning the student aid and billing process. Provides academic advisement and counseling to students in the process of making and pursuing a career choice. Meets with and assists students every semester to provide guidance and assistance with registered courses.
    Supervises one graduate counselor.
      Plans and develops assigned programs or projects. Guides and assists in the completion of assigned tasks.
    Maintains and communicates accurate information to students regarding financial and college academic requirements in a timely manner. Works collaboratively with the campus community for the purpose of recruiting, retaining, and graduating a diverse EOP student body.
      Assists the Admissions Office with the follow up of applicants to EOP.
    Serves on campus committees.
      Represents the EOP Office on campus committees.
    Teaches one EOP freshmen GEP Self College Career Course.
      Provides instruction as outlined by a syllabus to EOP freshmen registered during the fall semester.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university; demonstrated ability to work with a culturally and ethnically diverse population; demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrated experience in assessment of student learning outcomes; and, experience with SCT Banner, Angel and/or other student management software.


Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in counseling, educational administration or a related field by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university; significant experience in college counseling to include academic advisement, career, personal and financial aid counseling; experience in Higher Education with Opportunity Programs or related programs (EOP, HEOP, SEEK); experience developing and coordinating events and/or programs; demonstrated supervisory experience; knowledge about financial aid programs; and, knowledge of the development and management of a budget.
