Job Summary:
The Center for Academic Advising & Retention is currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the following position: Senior Advisor.

The Senior Advisor directs people, processes, and projects related to college, major-specific, pre-professional, and/or undecided advising for students through their transition to faculty advising. This position provides professional advising leadership to ensure students develop academic plans that are consistent with their life, career, and educational goals. Our holistic approach to student development requires professional advisors to build and sustain ongoing educational relationships with the students that promote persistence, encourage resiliency, and improve academic achievement.
The Senior Advisor will consult regularly with university faculty, staff, and administration to maintain up-to-date awareness of university programs, information, technologies, and procedures; conduct group presentations/classes; and assist in planning and maintaining overall advising program. The Senior Advisor will work closely with the Degree Completion Coordinators to develop discipline specific advisor training materials for student success advisors and faculty.

Required Qualifications:
  1. Masters degree (any field).
  2. Three (3) years of experience in academic advising or related work.
  3. Two years of leadership experience.
  4. Work experience utilizing theory-based practices to facilitate student success inside and outside of the classroom.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work in a positive, collaborative manner to build partnerships and work effectively as a contributing member of an advising team in a fast-paced, high-stress university/college system.
  6. Demonstrated experience using computer technologies such as databases, internet, spreadsheets, tracking systems, and word processing.
  7. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and time while under pressure to meet deadlines.
  8. Candidates must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, or diversity.


Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Masters degree in related fields such as adult education, academic advising, or counseling.
  2. Two years of supervisory or management experience.
  3. Experience in a college or university setting teaching college success strategies workshops or classes.
  4. Professional advising experience of students in a college or university setting which includes a focus on advising, persistence, retention, or student success programs.
  5. Fluency in a second language.

Job Duties:

Responsibility / Duty: PROVIDE TEAM LEADERSHIP, VISION AND MANAGEMENT
  1. Direction of people may include hiring, new advisor training, professional development, cross-team project coordination, mentoring, supervision, and/or evaluation of professional advisors.
  2. Collect and interpret data and develop consolidated reports for assigned areas of responsibility.
  3. Oversee assessment and evaluation of programming and outreach effectiveness for assigned areas of responsibility.
  4. Ensure communication plan follow-through for assigned areas of responsibility.
  5. Develop and present CAAR staff and training and professional development in collaboration with professional advising, Student Success Collaborative, and campus partners staff.
  6. Manage program entrance procedures and requirements for the colleges academic programs and/or EWU partner programs.
  7. In partnership with Degree Completion Coordinators, train professional advisors on any or all of faculty advising assignment process, major readiness, major declaration, program entrance or application processes-and support transition of program entrance procedures and requirements for EWUs colleges and educational partners.
  8. Collaborate with the Student Success Collaborative and Records and Registration to collect and update advising and articulation tools, information and materials.

Responsibility / Duty: ASSIST IN PLANNING, DELIVERY, AND ASSESSMENT OF OVERALL ADVISING PROGRAM
  1. Consult regularly and work collaboratively with university faculty, staff, and administration to maintain up-to-date awareness of university programs, information, technologies and procedures.
  2. Use technology to identify students in need of intervention and develop intervention strategies.
  3. Collaborate with the Degree Completion Coordinators to establish timelines and develop plans for routine communication and outreach for target populations.
  4. Conduct group presentations and workshops.
  5. Coordinate the activities connected with orientation and new student advisement.
  6. Develop and deliver campus events as directed by the leadership team.
  7. Collaborate with the Student Success Collaborative to maintain up to date Academic Planner templates and other degree tracking tools.
  8. All other related duties as assigned.

Responsibility / Duty: DIRECT STUDENT SUPPORT
  1. Provide academic advising to students with the most challenging situations, often referred by the advising teams.
  2. Provide specialized advising, in consultation with academic department staff, for students entering programs with competitive, pre-requisite, and/or deadline-driven application procedures.
  3. Assist students with developing their academic plans, consistent with their life, career, and educational goals, while ensuring steady progress towards graduation.
  4. Determine student needs, identify types of academic problems/difficulties that individual students are experiencing, and refer them to appropriate services.
  5. Build and sustain educational relationships with students in order to facilitate and enhance the student/university connection.
  6. Inform students about EWU academic policies and procedures, educational planning tools, time management, study skills, and decision-making skills.
  7. Collaborate with faculty to develop, implement, and deliver university skills curriculum and programming, including FYE.
  8. Serve as Back-Up Advisor, addressing urgent advising needs and communications.
  9. All other related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment:
This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.

Salary Information: The salary for this position is $46,805 (minimum) up to $56,167. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on qualifications, education, experience, and skills.
