Position Summary:
This is a full-time tenure track position in the School of Hospitality with a focus on quality teaching, advising, scholarship and service. This position is responsible for cultivating a learning environment for industry-bound students, as well as those students who wish to pursue graduate studies. Additionally, interaction with members of the professional community through ongoing liaison and participation in local and national chapters of major event and meeting professional associations, will be an ongoing responsibility.
This position is anticipated to start in the Fall of 2021.

Duties/Responsibilities:
This position requires teaching courses in the required curriculum for the BS in Event
and Meeting Management degree, which include, but are not limited to, Event Planning for the Professional, Event Project Planning, Event Catering Systems, Conventions and Trade Shows, Special Event Production, Event and Meeting Contracting, Corporate Meetings, Global Meetings and Events, Event Support Systems (utilization of current meeting and event technology), Advanced Planning and Risk Management. The successful candidate will teach 12 credit hours per semester (Fall and Spring), which may include teaching synchronous, evening, and/or online classes. Summer classes are optional with additional compensation. The instructor will combine classroom learning with experiential learning, and will effectively integrate technology (internet, social media, and teaching online) into course work, applied research, and advising. The instructor will advise at the undergraduate level, actively serve as faculty advisor to a student organization, provide service to the university and community, and fulfill other assigned duties as requested by the Department Chair or Dean.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and fostering relationships with meeting, event and hospitality sectors of the economy. It is expected that these relationships will lead to professional opportunities for students as well as research outlets for School of Hospitality faculty. The successful candidate must be student-oriented and possess strong leadership skills conducive to building premier undergraduate and graduate programs within the School of Hospitality.


Required Qualifications:
Terminal degree, or ABD at time of appointment, in Event & Meeting Management, Hotel Management, Hospitality Leadership, or other hospitality-related discipline.

Minimum 3 years professional experience in the hospitality industry.


Preferred Qualifications:
1) At least one degree in Hospitality Management or related field.

2) Active membership in at least one national/international professional event or meeting association.

3) 3 years teaching or training experience both classroom-based and online, with preference given to candidates with evidence of successful teaching in an institution of higher education.

4) Current and valid Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) or/and Certification in Meeting Management (CMM) designation.

5) Experience planning meetings, conventions, or trade shows nationally or internationally.

6) Corporate meeting planning experience.
