Job Summary
A Research Lab Specialist Senior is immediately available in the laboratory of Professor Simon Hogan, Ph.D. within the University of Michigan Mary H. Weiser Food Allergy Center (MHWFAC) and Department of Pathology for candidates with a Ph.D. and a strong background and expertise in human embryonic stem cell biology, human and mouse organoid engineering and biostatistics. Broadly, the position will involve development and utilizing iPS-derived cells and organ tissues to study hematopoietic cell and organ tissue function in food allergy. We are part of the Mary H Weiser Food Allergy Center, a world-leading and multi-disciplinary group committed to advancing our understanding of the immunopathophysiology of food allergy, and developing methods for early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of food allergy.

Responsibilities*

  • Generation of Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPS cells) and generating human tissues from Pluripotent Stem cells in various conditions.

  • Develop stem cell culture and differentiation protocols, and murine and human organoids in vitro and in vivo

  • Utilize cell biology (FACS cell staining, confocal microscopy) and cell-based immunological, biochemical and molecular biological assay systems for pipeline characterization analyses of differentiated cell and tissues.

  • Design Input and execution of well-controlled in vitro experiments to establish proof-of-concept and/or technological optimization and cell product characterization.

  • Troubleshooting cell culture and in vitro assays

  • Development of Standard Operating Procedures

  • Present results to laboratory members at weekly lab meetings; present results and data within MHWFAC and Department of Pathology.

  • Working closely with faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and students to teach iPS cell reprogramming and organ tissue generation.

  • Attend departmental and Institutional meetings and national and international meetings, as appropriate.

Required Qualifications*

  • PhD in Molecular Biology or related discipline and > 5 years' experience in generation of Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPS cells) and generating human hematopoietic cells and tissues from human iPS cells under various conditions. Must be published in a field of speciality.

  • Extensive experience in mammalian cell culture, stem cell culture and differentiation protocols, and murine and human organoid engineering.

  • High level of experience with pipeline characterization analyses of differentiated cell and tissues using cell staining, FACS, and cell-based immunological and molecular biological assay systems.

  • Experience in animal husbandry

  • Demonstrated excellence in planning, executing and analyzing experiments

  • Able to troubleshoot, solve difficult problems, and develop process and/or assay improvements

  • Attention to detail and careful record-keeping

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to write technical reports and protocols

  • Flexible team player excited to collaborate with internal and external partners

  • Highly self-motivated

  • Flexibility in working schedule to accommodate weekend work if necessary
