About the Opportunity:
The Research Assistant will be involved in all aspects of a research study on misinformation under the direction of Dr. Briony Swire-Thompson. The overarching goal of this study is to measure the prevalence of misinformation on social media and understand the mechanisms that underlies its spread. The project will investigate why people share misinformation online, and how these motivations change over the lifespan. It will also investigate how people make assessments of trust and source credibility, how people update their beliefs when misinformation is corrected, and the psychological mechanisms of this belief updating.

This is a one-year term position through July 2022, with the option of a second year. The position could provide an excellent training opportunity for graduate school programs.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with data collection (for example, recruiting participants online)
  • Data analysis
  • Literature reviews and write-up of misinformation experiments

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in psychology, computer science, or related field and interest in making a career in such a field is required. The candidate must be conscientious, with excellent people skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

Previous research experience preferred. Technical skills such as knowledge of statistical methods and programming are also a plus.
