Salary:

Salary Range: $4,554 - $6,488 per month(anticipated hiring salary: $4,554 per month)

Note: This is a full-time (40 hours per week), probationary, exempt position

Admissions and Recruitment supports the university's goals for student enrollment by recruiting diverse students from our region and beyond through equitable partnerships, innovative programs, high quality services and recruitment technology.

Admissions and Recruitment provides the following services to high school and transfer students seeking to earn an undergraduate degree at Fresno State:

  • Provide information about Fresno State's academic programs, student services and student life in order to help future students make an educated decision on attending our campus.
  • Give a preview of our campus and facilities by offering group and individual/family campus tours.
  • Provide one-on-one pre-admission advising sessions and help prospective students in their exploration of different pathways to Fresno State.
  • Assist prospective students with academic major/program counseling so they are well informed and prepared as they enter the university.
  • Liaison between prospective students and academic programs.
  • Provide unofficial transcript evaluation at various stages of a prospective student's academic career to evaluate their progress for entry to the university.
  • Help future students navigate the admission processand assist them with the completion of steps required to attend the university from the time they apply to the moment they enroll.
  • Inform students by addressing the various questions they may have regarding financial aid, scholarship, required tests, eligibility and program requirements.

Overview:

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Admissions and Recruitment (AR), the recruitment counselor's primary responsibility is to execute the recruitment strategies and provide services in the areas of counseling, admission advising, follow-up, coordination of various recruitment events, delivery of presentations as well as other recruitment activities targeted at high school and community college students in order to meet the FTE goals of the university. The recruitment counselor also serves as the primary liaison to the Lyles College of Engineering (LCOE) and designs, coordinates and executes recruitment strategies for the college.

Position Summary:

  • Represent the university at local and state recruitment events such as college nights, transfer days, career fairs, conferences, veteran's fairs and other community events as approved by the director
  • Develop, implement and provide assessment of a comprehensive recruitment plan to increase interest and enrollment for LCOE
  • Collaborate with the Admissions and Recruitment (AR) and LCOE on the design and execution of recruitment strategies
  • Analyze data and provide recommendations for strategies supporting the goals of AR and LCOE
  • Provide pre-admission services such as transcript review and evaluation for admission advising, and course articulation and equivalencies using various tools such as ASSIST, PeopleSoft, Transfer Evaluation System (TES) and U-achieve
  • Inform, counsel, advise and assist students in their decision making about the various academic programs offered
  • Plan, coordinate and execute follow-up strategies for the matriculation of applicants and assist them at various stages of the admission process as assigned by AR and LCOE
  • Provide recruitment and activity reports as requested by AR and LCOE
  • Plan, coordinate and execute diverse recruitment events, programs and tours for AR and LCOE
  • Assist in the development, execution and maintenance of a comprehensive marketing and communication plan including mails, emails, phone calls, text, brochures, webinars, and social media for AR and LCOE
  • Develop and maintain relationship with assigned community colleges and high schools by working with school personnel, visitations, hosting appointments and coordinating and conducting various presentations/workshops
  • Serve as the university and LCOE curator of articulation documents and integrated curriculum flow for all partner institutions
  • Facilitate the seamless transition of students to the university by collaborating with other departments such as Advising, EOP, Financial Aid, Scholarships, University Courtyard, Dog Days and academic programs to ensure policies and practices are administered in the best interest of the students
  • Coordinate and conduct various events for high school, community college counselors
  • Report frequently to the director with updates on the planning and execution of recruitment efforts for the academic colleges

Secondary Duties of Job Include:

  • Keep up-to-date regarding policies and procedures related to admissions, academic programs, general education and related university information
  • Assist with other various office programs and activities
  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned or approved by the AR director

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior
  • General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of a university admissions or student recruitment office
  • General knowledge of individual counseling techniques
  • General knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the CSU Fresno
  • Working knowledge of student services programs outside a university admissions or student recruitment office

Ability to:

  • Analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action
  • Advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters
  • Determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive natureInterpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action
  • Carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals

Education and Experience:

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution
  • Three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience
    • A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience
    • A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience

Specialized Skills:

  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and some weekends, and travel extensively
  • Possession of a valid, current Class "C" California driver's license and a good driving record

Preferred Skills:

  • A Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field
  • Skilled in computer software, word-processing, PowerPoint, Excel, databases, PeopleSoft, and social media

Ability to:

  • Present clear and concise information both orally and in written form
  • Develop and deliver effective presentations and/or workshops
  • Plan, organize, and execute events
  • Research and analyze data and prepare reports, justifications, and make recommendations
