Public Safety Officer
Carroll University
Classification: Support Staff - Full-Time
Tuesday-Saturday (7:00pm-3:00am)
Reports to: Public Safety Sergeant Community Policing
Description: Responsible for the safety of the Carroll community and the security of campus buildings, grounds and surrounding neighborhoods.
Responsibilities:
Regularly patrol University campus, buildings, and surrounding community via foot, bike and vehicle, enforce rules, regulations, and University policy; render emergency assistance; initiate written and verbal reports; conduct interviews relative to investigations; provide crisis intervention; and provide overall public safety services to all members of Carroll University and surrounding community
Makes regular tours of campus buildings, performing lock and unlock function, and checking for unauthorized use
Conducts regular checks of parking lots, enforcing parking regulations and checking for signs of criminal activity
Provides traffic control as needed and assigned
Conducts checks of boilers and other physical plant rooms for signs of malfunction
Acts as first contact for afterhours physical plant and custodial problems
Responds to areas on campus in all emergency and routine situations including police, fire, and medical personnel
Act quickly, instill calm, and determine appropriate actions during emergencies and critical situations
Works closely with members of the student affairs staff in communicating and investigating concerns
Generates a full report of activities and incidents in an accurate and timely manner
Advocate for campus safety and security issues and needs
Enforce University policies, and assist law enforcement in enforcing appropriate statutes, ordinances, and traffic laws
Provide a cooperative liaison with Waukesha Police Department patrol and investigative units
Render emergency assistance to members of the Carroll University community as necessary
Voluntarily initiate and/or take assigned written complaint reports on all incidents of crime, suspicious persons or circumstances, motor vehicle accidents, or circumstances that might pose questionable liability to the University
Interview victims, complainants, witnesses, and suspects relative to investigations. Prepare related documentation and reports
Qualifications:
Education and/or experience:
High school diploma or GED required
Training in safety/security area and/or college credits in a related field preferred
Three to four years of security/military/ law enforcement experience preferred
This position may require the availability to work ALL shifts as scheduled-1st, 2nd, 3rd, day, night, weekend, rotating, and swing, as well as holidays and overtime. Shift differential is available.

Excellent oral and written communication skills
Sensitivity to the needs of students
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to walk long distances (up to 3 miles), climb up to five flights of stairs continuously, and ride a bicycle at a moderate speed for up to three miles
Special Requirements:
Must possess valid drivers' license and be insurable under the University's insurance plan
Ability to respond and react quickly in emergency situations
Flexible with ability to work off shifts and weekends as needed
