JOB SUMMARY

The Connecticut Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation (CCEI) in the School of Business is seeking a full-time Program Manager (Educational Program Administrator) for the Entrepreneurial Bootcamp for Veterans (EBV) and Family Business Program. The incumbent will report to the Executive Director of CCEI and will coordinate and manage the day-to-day administrative activities of and provide program support to the EBV and Family Business Program. This position will be based at the Graduate Business Learning Center in Hartford and in Storrs but will require occasional in-state and out-of-state travel, plus evenings and weekends in support of program needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include but are not limited to:

Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans (EBV) & Veteran's Entrepreneurship Initiatives
  • Assisting in the planning and implementation of EBV program services and activities and supervising the day-to-day delivery of program content.
  • Recruiting qualified program participants through promotional activities and contact with the target population; assessing the educational need of the target population and recommending courses of action to meet those needs.
  • Screening applicants for admission to the program and assisting in making admissions decisions; is responsible for EBV registration, program schedules, and related records; providing academic, career, and personal counseling to applicants and students; monitoring student progress and assisting in making decisions regarding dismissal and exceptions to administered programs.
  • Recruiting mentors, guest speakers, and entrepreneurs in residence to support veterans in starting their businesses.
  • Assisting in the planning, organization, execution and evaluation of workshops, training programs, and other related curricula, in accordance with EBV goals.
  • Delivering educational program content through regular presentations, outreach activities, and educational material.
  • Serving as a resource to potential applicants, current students, staff, and others on matters relating to EBV policies, procedures, and activities.
  • Keeping informed of and monitors compliance with state licensing, professional certification, accreditation, and Veterans Administration requirements.
  • Assisting in developing and implementing other opportunities or training initiatives for the Veteran Community at UConn School of Business or within UConn with the target population of faculty, staff, students, or alumni, as appropriate.
  • Engaging in public relations, promotional, and recruiting activities with the Veterans community at UConn School of Business or UConn.

Family Business Program
  • Assisting in the planning and implementing of Family Business program services and activities, and managing the day-to-day delivery of program content.
  • Assisting in the planning, organization, execution, and evaluation of workshops, presentations, and other programming for participants.
  • Assisting in planning, developing, and implementing member recruitment and retention strategies to improve the standing of the program with family firms, organizations, and community groups.
  • Assessing needs and recruiting appropriate program sponsors and partners (highly skilled experts in their designated field that work pro-bono) and determining assignments to most effectively meet program and member needs.
  • Serving as a resource to family firms, organizations, community groups, potential members, sponsors, strategic alliances, and the public regarding program policies, procedures, and objectives.

General Program Management
  • Training, supervising, and evaluating professional and student staff; recommends staffing needs; determining work assignments to most effectively meet the needs of the programs.
  • Engaging in promotional activities for the programs to external audiences and prospective members.
  • Assisting in securing funding for the program through donations or grants.
  • Making budget recommendations and assisting in managing the approved budget for EBV and Family Business programs.
  • Collecting and analyzing program data, preparing reports, and participating in evaluating program effectiveness.
  • Assisting in developing program policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Five years of related work experience. One year of experience must be serving as an advanced team member.
  • Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills, including the ability to identify and resolve administrative and program problems.
  • Demonstrated experience taking initiative, setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and making decisions using sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, students, administrators as well as external agencies/groups and the public.
  • Proven ability to successfully recruit and counsel students and/or program participants.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating, planning, and executing events, workshops, training programs, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully presenting information to small and large groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office products.
  • Dependable transportation and willingness and ability to work flexible and/or irregular hours and travel in-state and out-of-state in support of program activities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working in an academic higher education environment in a university setting.
  • Prior service in the U.S. military.
  • Experience working with veterans and knowledge of veteran's initiatives or agencies and programs for veterans.
  • Experience working with family-owned or small businesses.
  • Experience working with a grant-funded program.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising employees.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, end-date, annually renewable position based in both Hartford and Storrs, CT.
