Position Details:
One contract, professional expert position, full-time, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year with the Small Business Development Center. The person selected for this position will be subject to assignment to any district facility during any hours of operation. We're looking to fill the position as soon as possible

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:
MiraCosta College Board Policy 7800: Employee Residency requires all classified staff, administrators, and temporary/hourly short-term employees to maintain and permanently reside in a principal place of residence in the state of California that is within two-hundred (200) road miles from the employee's regularly assigned district worksite. The purpose of the policy is to promote efficiency and continuity throughout all campus administrative functions, provide students with high quality assistance and accessibility to all academic and campus services, ensure that students receive an engaging education, and respond to emerging student needs.

The District may consider an individual request to temporarily reside outside of the State of California or outside the 200-mile limit on a case-by-case basis, not to exceed twelve consecutive months.

Salary Range: Professional Expert Salary Schedule
Compensation: $79,244 per year on the 2023-2024 professional expert salary schedule.Employees must make arrangements for the direct deposit of paychecks into the financial institution of their choice, via electronic fund transfer.

Retired STRS members are not eligible for this position.



Basic Function:
Under general direction, provide training and counseling services to the small business community to create economic impact in the service area; perform intake and determine client needs; recommend possible solutions to owners of small businesses; provide business technical assistance through confidential one-on-one consulting and group training; and perform related duties as assigned.

  • Conduct in-depth client interviews and eligibility evaluations, crafting detailed Scope of Work reports and consulting/training plans tailored to Small Business Development Center (SBDC) services.
  • Refer clients to specialized consultants when specific expertise is required, ensuring clients receive comprehensive and targeted support.
  • Provide expert guidance in diverse business areas during one-on-one consulting sessions, addressing topics such as funding, marketing plans, financial forecasting, market feasibility, capital raising, product diversification, operations management, and marketing strategies.
  • Offer direction in essential areas like financial viability and operational efficiency, contributing significantly to clients business success.
  • Accurately document client data, communications, and milestones within the SBDCs CRM systems, ensuring seamless tracking and continuous improvement in service delivery.
  • Empower entrepreneurs with actionable insights and strategic direction, fostering business growth and contributing to the economic development of the community.

  • Experienced in business planning, management, financial analysis, and accessing various forms of capital, providing holistic counseling to entrepreneurs.
  • Demonstrates excellent business communication skills, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation, fostering clear and professional interactions.
  • Capable of identifying barriers faced by small business owners, conducting situational analyses, and developing tailored strategies for clients.
  • Maintains client information confidentiality and demonstrates proficiency in computer operation and standard business software.
  • Exhibits tact and diplomacy in handling sensitive and confidential client matters, showcasing cultural awareness and understanding.

Education & Experience:
  • Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in providing business consulting and training services.
  • Showcase a proven track record of imparting valuable expertise to a diverse clientele.


Desirable Qualifications:
  • Previous small business ownership.
  • Bilingual


Licenses & Other Requirements:
A valid California drivers license and the ability to maintain insurability under the districts vehicle insurance program.

Primarily sedentary with intermittent standing, walking, bending and stooping; occasional light lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds; ability to work at computer, including repetitive use of a computer keyboard, mouse or other control devices; ability to travel to a variety of locations on and off campus as needed to conduct district business. Travel is required within the region the VBOC serves. Additional travel may be required by the SBA.

Working Conditions:
Primarily business office environment; subject to frequent public contact and interruption; intermittent exposure to individuals acting in a disagreeable fashion. May work at any authorized facility in the SoCal VBOC service area with occasional evening, weekend and/or holiday hours required on an as-needed basis.
