WHAT YOU'LL DO

Under the general supervision of an assigned supervisor, assist in the coordination of Performing Arts Center events and facility usage and perform a variety of duties in support of the operation of the Performing Arts Center.
There is currently one full-time (40 hours/week, 12 months/year) vacancy located at Ventura College.

This recruitment is also being conducted to establish a list of eligible candidates that will be used to fill district-wide, current and upcoming, temporary and regular vacancies for the duration of the list, not to exceed one year.

Established in 1925, Ventura College was one of the first community colleges in California and currently has an enrollment of 14,500 students. Located approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara, the 112-acre campus is set in the rolling hills of Ventura - so close to the ocean that there is a clear view of the Channel Islands from several spots on campus.

SALARY PLACEMENT

New Employees:
Generally, new employees are placed on the first step of the appropriate range of the salary schedule.

Current Employees: An employee who is promoted will be placed on the salary step of the new range of the appropriate salary schedule that provides a minimum increase comparable to a one-step increase in salary.

New and current employees may be eligible for advanced step placement as outlined in Section 290 - SALARY PLAN in the Rules of the Personnel Commission for Classified Employees (Download PDF reader).

Representative Duties

Maintain the production schedule and calendar of events and coordinate, perform, and oversee house operations, box office functions, sale of concessions, and the maintenance of the Performing Arts Center. E

Coordinate the submission of production planning packets for producers using the Performing Arts Center and disseminate information to appropriate parties for approval. E

Prepare and process permit applications from requesters internal and external to the college according to established procedures and obtain proper authorization; notify permit applicants of approval or denial and issue permits to applicants. E

Assist in the development and revision of standard operating procedures for the Performing Arts Center. E

Train and provide work direction to student workers and volunteers in various functions of house organization and management including ticket sales. E

Serve as a resource to administrators and the public concerning the use of Performing Arts Center facilities; respond to inquiries and provide information including estimates for use of facilities and information regarding Performing Arts Center productions. E

Develop and maintain the record of financial transactions and procedures for the Performing Arts box office; track and maintain the Performing Arts Center program budgets. E

Develop, prepare, disseminate, and coordinate the production of announcements, brochures, flyers, forms, social media posts, and other promotional materials regarding Performing Arts Center productions; monitor and update the Performing Arts Center website; maintain displays in the Performing Arts Center public areas. E

Perform a variety of clerical and customer service duties including answering telephones and greeting and assisting visitors, composing a variety of forms, reports and correspondence, establishing and maintaining files for facility transactions, and developing and updating patron mailing lists. E

Coordinate, facilitate, attend, participate in, and prepare agendas for a variety of meetings related to Performing Arts Center productions and operations. E

Perform other duties as assigned.

E = Essential Duties

Minimum Qualifications


  1. Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency AND three years of clerical or administrative support experience involving frequent public contact. Experience performing box office and front of house duties in a theater or performing arts center is preferred.

  2. An associate degree from a recognized college or university AND one year of clerical or administrative support experience involving frequent public contact. Experience performing box office and front of house duties in a theater or performing arts center is preferred.

    OR
  3. A bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university. Experience performing box office and front of house duties in a theater or performing arts center is preferred.

EXAMINATION AND SELECTION PROCESS

WRITTEN/PERFORMANCE TEST DATE RANGE AND LOCATION
Date Range: Wednesday, April 10, 2024 - Monday, April 15, 2024

Location: All candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be emailed a link to the test on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 and will have until 11:59 pm on Monday, April 15, 2024 to complete the test. To participate in the written/performance test, you must have access to a computer and a reliable connection to the internet.

The top candidates with the highest passing scores on the written/performance test will be invited to the technical interview.

TECHNICAL INTERVIEW DATE RANGE AND LOCATION

Date Range: Wednesday, April 24, 2024 - Tuesday, April, 2024

Location: The Technical Interview will be conducted remotely, using Zoom. To participate, you must have access to a computer with a camera, microphone, speakers, and a reliable connection to the internet.

The examination components and dates are subject to change as needs dictate. All communication regarding this process will be delivered via email.

ELIGIBILITY LIST

Upon completion of the examination, the eligibility list will be compiled by combining the final examination score with applicable seniority and veteran's credits, if any. The candidates will be ranked according to their total score on the eligibility list. Certification will be made from the highest three ranks of the eligibility list. This eligibility list will be used to fill current vacancies for up to one year from the date of the technical interview.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD

All appointments made from eligibility lists for initial appointment or for promotion, with certain exceptions, shall be probationary for a period of six (6) months or one hundred thirty (130) days of paid service, whichever is longer. Classified management, police, and designated executive classifications shall be probationary for a period of one (1) year of paid service from initial appointment or promotion.
