COLLEGE OF SOUTHERN NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE & EMERGENCY SERVICES EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES

LAB ASSISTANT

POSITION PURPOSE

This position exists to serve the EMS students and staff of the College of Southern Nevada Emergency Medical Services Program. This position is semi-skilled and manual in nature operating the logistics of the programs multiple lab spaces in addition to other duties that include receiving, stocking, inventory, and distribution functions. This position works with considerable independence in the normal performance of duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility but should not be considered an all inclusive listing of work requirements. The lab assistant may perform other duties as assigned upon the direction of the EMS Program Director.
  • Receives all lab supplies orders and verifies order against receiving documents, noting, and reporting discrepancies and obvious damages within 72 hours of department receipt.
  • Provides program or department AA with receiving documents for proper ESHS confirmation.
  • Stores, stacks, and arranges supplies and material in prescribed location with appropriate storage methods.
  • Performs records management functions associated with inventory and equipment tracking primarily by developing indicators for tracking equipment and supplies.
  • Monitor use of all lab equipment and consumption of supplies apportioning proper restock of essential soft supplies on a weekly basis.
  • Conducts parts and materials inventory and use including historical tracking for the purpose ofensuring proper inventory and supply levels at all times. Applies efficient storage methods including allocations of proper bins or other storage spaces and security of stock.
  • Organizes and arranges shelving to assure items being placed on shelves are in the correct area by labeling all shelves and arranging shelving in the most efficient manner conducive to teaching practice.
  • Inspects, cleans, and catalogs all items out of service needing repair.
  • Responsible for maintaining repair logs and notifying the EMS office if coordination with an outsourced vendor for repair is necessary.
  • Assists in the program planning process by projecting needed equipment and supplies based upon documented expenditures.
  • Create and assemble lists specifying supplies and materials needed for program operations in accordance with planned teaching schedule.
  • Initiate and prepare requisitions for needed stock on EMS Program form by searching vendor catalogs and other data sources to obtain vendor name, correct stock number and page number if applicable.
  • Accountable for delivering this form to program AA promptly for obtainment of a quote and further approval processes.
  • Required to report to work at the appointed hour, as scheduled, and to work the entire contracted time.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent. Preferred:
  • Knowledge of EMS tools and equipment is required.
  • Computer experience in records management and databases.
  • Knowledge of inventory and supply chain logistics with experience in computer tracking. As well as some background knowledge of medical vendors and distributors.


STARTING SALARY

$12.00 per hour/Less than 15 hours per week

  • Knowledge of storekeeping methods and procedures. Knowledge of records used in the receiving storing, inspecting and issuing diversified goods.
  • Ability to visually inspect and determine accurately the quantity and quality of goods received in relation to prescribed specifications and purchase orders.
  • Knowledge of prescribed methods of conducting complete inventory and records management systems.
  • The ability to access, input, and retrieve information from the computer.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instruction and the ability to read and write.
  • Ability to deal with the pressure of interruptions, noise and deadlines on a daily basis.
  • Ability to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed, and considering team goals rather than individual concerns. Includes the ability to build a constructive team spirit where team members are committed to the goals and objectives of the organization.


EQUIPMENT

To accomplish the tasks of this position, the employee will be required to operate the following machines and equipment: inventory management equipment, computer, calculator, and other general office supplies, step ladders, etc.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift up to 50 pounds collectively. The employee will frequently be required to use upper extremities for: feeling, lifting, reaching and pulling. Additionally, other actions such as talking and listening are required. There are special vision requirements of close, distance, and color vision to assure a commendable job performance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts, biohazardous waste, and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level may become loud at times.
