In compliance with SB 1162, Western University of Health Sciences is providing a pay scale for this position. The pay scale reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within this range, the individual pay is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and work location. Please note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only.

Job Summary
The COMP-Northwest Mental Health Provider will develop and provide a variety of services to promote and maintain the mental wellness of 1st through 4th year osteopathic medical students as well as provide clinical therapeutic services for students who may be experiencing mental illnesses. The clinician will need to become intimately familiar with medical education and competent in addressing the unique challenges medical students face.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  1. Individuals must demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities to assess, diagnose, treat and appropriately refer persons who present for care, using evidence-based modalities.
  2. Demonstrates experience with evidence-based, short term psychotherapy modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy and familiarity with adverse childhood events and social determinants of health.
  3. Demonstrates knowledge of ethical standards and Oregon law pertaining to the practice of therapy for the specific license held.
  4. Demonstrates multicultural awareness and skills in a clinical setting.
  5. Experience with group psychotherapy.
  6. Demonstrates a passion for developing new and innovative programs to promote mental wellness in medical students, while utilizing evidence-based practices.
  7. Demonstrates the knowledge, and consistently endeavors to create an environment of community, collaboration and success for the entire campus community.
  8. Demonstrates consistent professional and ethical boundaries in all situations.
  9. Willingness to deeply understand and recognize the unique challenges of being a medical student.


Required Qualifications
  1. Masters degree or PhD in counseling, social work, psychology or other related field OR MD/DO board certified in psychiatry with significant experience in psychotherapy
  2. Clinically licensed in Oregon

Job Duty
Provide 1:1 psychotherapy for medical students using evidence based modalities. Clinician will provide ongoing psychotherapy for medical students facing acute stressors, anxiety or depression. Ability to perform comprehensive psychosocial assessments of new clients and recognize more serious mental illnesses and refer for a higher level of care when needed. If DO/MD, provide psychiatric assessments and ongoing medication management for psychiatric disorders.
