California State University Fullerton is seeking applications for a professional mental health counselor. Under the general supervision of the Director, the selected candidate will provide a full range of clinical services (60%) and participate in campus outreach and other projects (40%). This position is a full-time (40 hours a week), 12 month position. Successful candidates will have a Master's or Doctorate degree in psychology or counseling from an accredited university, and have expertise in addressing the mental health and welfare, as well as the educational and academic achievement needs of a diverse college student population. Successful Candidates will also be expected to collaborate and work closely with other disciplines/departments.

Position
Direct Counseling Services: provide intake interviews and psycho-diagnostic assessments, brief individual, couples and group counseling, crisis intervention, case management and referrals to and consultation with on-campus and off-campus academic, disability, mental health and health professionals.

Outreach Services: develop and provide outreach programs (e.g., classroom presentations; workshops; informal discussion groups) for a metropolitan, largely commuter campus with a highly diverse undergraduate/graduate student population.

Consultation: provide expertise to the university community regarding issues that affect the educational, developmental and psychological well-being of graduate students; provide consultation services and in-service training to faculty, administrators, staff and student leaders on pertinent college student issues.

Qualifications
Required

Master's degree or Doctorate degree of Psychology or Counseling from an accredited school.
California mental health license to practice or licensed eligibility (must have completed supervised hours prior to employment with CSUF). It not licensed or licensed in another state, must be licensed in California within 1 year of hire.
Clinical experience providing mental health services to college students either on a college campus or in the community.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement outreach presentations and workshops on mental health topics and to provide consultation and preventive education.
Demonstrated ability to conduct intake interviews, including psycho-diagnostic assessment, case conceptualization, and treatment plan formulation, for students with a broad spectrum of psychological problems, ranging from adjustment issues to major psychiatric disorders.
Demonstrated ability to provide individual, couples and group counseling, and crisis intervention for psychological emergencies.
Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity and ability to work with students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Demonstrated experience with issues pertinent to a university student population
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent ability to work as a member of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
Computer Skills: Demonstrated ability to do electronic scheduling and record keeping

Preferred

California license to practice as an LMFT, LCSW, or Psychologist.
Specialization in an area pertinent to CSUF college students (e.g., sexual identity development; immigration and acculturation issues; trauma work; suicide prevention; anxiety interventions; linkage and case management).
Experience and interest in providing outreach services and counseling to address underserved students.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage a variety of clinical duties as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Rank and Salary
In the CSU system, this position is classified as a Student Service Professional- Academically Related Level I- non tenure track. This is a full time 12-month appointment position and contract may be renewed for additional years, based on satisfactory performance and funds availability. Mental Health Counselors in the CSU serve as members of the Academic Faculty Unit and represented by the faculty union. Salary is competitive and is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
