Job Summary
The Department of Radiation Oncology is seeking an experienced medical professional to manage the patient flow through consultation, examination and treatment.

Responsibilities*
The Medical Assistant will be responsible for providing patient information and largely coordinating their clinic experience. Candidates should exhibit the ability to function at a high level and understand the coordination required in a clinical environment. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Schedule patients with chronic disease care.
  • Coordinate appointments, follow-up tests and treatments.
  • Complete lab orders, consult requests and providing the patient with an appointment when needed.
  • Function as a Medical Assistant to fulfill the needs of the clinic.
  • Assistance with Medical Procedures
  • Coordination of care with both inpatient and outpatient and joint venture teams.
  • Ability to work in multiple electronic systems
  • Contact patients and arrange appropriate testing, referrals or follow-up; document if test completed elsewhere or declines.
  • Self-motivated.

Required Qualifications*
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Some office experience is necessary.
  • Moderate standing/walking, as well as, lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.

Medical Assistant Associate:
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program or an equivalent combination of education and 1-3 years of experience

Medical Assistant:
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program or an equivalent combination of education

Desired Qualifications*
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant.
  • Candidates demonstrating problem solving ability, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and formal medical experience is preferred.
  • Experience working within a large complex health care setting.
  • Familiarity with Michigan Medicine electronic medical records systems.
  • Knowledge of University policies & procedures.

Work Schedule
Flexible work schedule, 40 hours M - F.

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
