Your teams will work closely with the infrastructure and applications teams to deliver excellent services to the campus--you will work closely with the CTO to design, develop, and deliver our campus IT services.

We offer a great work schedule (7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Friday), a four day work week over the summer, and a paid winter holiday break. OVERVIEW:
Under the administrative direction of an administrator, manages the daily activities and resources related to Desktop Support, Computer Labs and Smart Classroom Support, Media Support and User Support Services. Participates in the design and management of network and desktop services, equipment and supplies. Performs other related duties as required.



Representative Duties:

The duties recorded below are representative of the duties of the class and are not intended to cover all the duties performed by incumbent(s) of any particular position.   1. In coordination with the CTO, plans for and provides effective and efficient support for District telecommunication systems, data systems, networks and related Information Technology infrastructure, including local area and wide area networks, inter-building and intra-building cable plant and voice communication systems; develops new system capabilities to improve overall District operations in the above areas*
  2. Manages assigned technical staff; duties include instructing, assigning and planning work, determining performance objectives, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, selecting new employees, acting on employee problems and recommending employee discipline and discharge as appropriate. Reviews and evaluates the work of employees for effectiveness, completeness, accuracy and adherence to departmental policies; offers training, advice and assistance.
  3. Participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of the departmental budget(s) and maintains budget records as required*
  4. Directs and deploys departmental resources to implement projects and programs*
  5. Consults with District administrators, faculty and staff to determine needs and expectations in the above areas; researches project feasibility, product cost and availability, budgetary allowances and other factors in project planning and design*
  6. Coordinates with District staff to provide the necessary support for projects in information technology (IT) areas*
  7. Plans campus-wide, inter- and intra-building fiber and copper cable plant for voice and data; switched voice and voice processing systems; data networks and computer desktop equipment*
  8. Initiates and maintains positive relationships with other departments and members of the College community; measures customer satisfaction with department programs and services*
  9. Develops and maintains relationships with representatives of the computing and telecommunications industry, including telephone companies, long-distance carriers and computer vendors*
  10. Recognizes and identifies potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future expansion*
  11. Gathers information and prepares reports for presentations to management, staff and agencies outside the District as needed and required
  12. May initiate, recommend, and/or administer contracts and service agreements
  13. Performs technical tasks as needed
  14. Keeps CTO informed of departmental performance, morale, legal compliance, and personnel issues
  15. May act as project manager for special activities as required or assigned
  16. Serves on a variety of District committees as requested
  17. Performs related work as required.


Qualifications/Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate's degree in computer science, information science, telecommunications or the equivalent*.
  • Two (2) years' experience in computer, networking, media and user support services; AND
  • One (1) year of experience in a supervisory position with technical responsibilities directly related to this classification.
*Education equivalency equals two (2) years of increasingly responsible directly related work experience for each full year (24-30 units) of college. Work experience must be directly related to the technical responsibilities of this classification.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science or telecommunications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
May be acquired through education, training and/or experience.

Knowledge and ability to apply District policies, rules and procedures.
Knowledge of: laws and ordinances pertaining to the specific responsibilities of the position; supervisory and managerial concepts and principles; computer network operating systems and protocols; network devices, wiring and cabling methods and procedures; PBX and other types of telephone systems; telecommunications links and network protocols; skill in working with a variety of major computer manufacturer hardware, software and operating systems; the application of micro-computing technology, applications software and hardware in a distributed environment.
Ability to: ensure departmental compliance with all laws, regulations and policies through effective supervision; motivate and provide leadership to employees; comprehend and stay current with evolving, complex technologies in multiple areas; effectively implement project management methods to organize, monitor and ensure achievement of technical project objectives; coordinate multiple activities simultaneously; accurately assess the technological needs of a department or program; utilize keyboarding skills commensurate with the required functions for this position; compose complex, technical reports, analysis and correspondence; analyze administrative problems and prepare comprehensive, clear and concise reports and recommendations; make sound, educated decisions; work independently; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work with diverse populations; make required mathematical calculations accurately; maintain records accurately and with confidentiality as required; compile, organize and use various financial information necessary in the preparation of the departmental budget; control and monitor budget expenditures and resource development.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  1. The successful applicant will be required to complete a medical history questionnaire and must agree to undergo and pass a pre-employment physical examination, based on the physical requirements of the position, prior to employment. The physician will be selected and paid for by the District. Disabilities not related to the essential physical job requirements will not preclude the applicant from being hired.
  2. Education Code 87408.6 states that no person shall be initially employed by a community college district in an academic or classified position unless the person has submitted to an examination within the past sixty (60) days to determine that he or she is free of active tuberculosis.
