Job Summary
As a key member of the Department of Aerospace Engineering, this position provides multimedia and web support for all program and partnership initiatives across Aerospace Engineering's portfolio. The ideal candidate is a creative, well-rounded, detail-oriented team-player with a broad background in implementing multimedia and web strategies, who has experience working effectively with diverse audiences across multiple communications channels, and brings a dedication to quality and customer service.

About Aerospace EngineeringThe University of Michigan's Department of Aerospace Engineering is the first collegiate aeronautics program in the United Statesstarted in 1914, with more than 6,000 aerospace engineers who graduated over the past 100 years. Responsibilities*
Overall Design and Implementation: (40%) Design and develop innovative strategic communications solutions that visually and contextually support the communication of Aerospace Engineering's messaging, programs, and branding.

Includes:
  • Assist in the development of Aerospace Engineering's overall marketing and communications plans and strategies for both internal and external audiences.
  • Work with supervisor and team members to analyze, determine, and implement multimedia design needs.
  • Based on identified needs, create, present for review, and implement original concepts, designs, and products that support Aerospace Engineering's messaging and branding for all assets and media channels (social media, email, print, web, video, etc.).
  • Utilize various media and design technologies to provide innovative and compelling solutions for websites, print collateral, digital and print ads, email campaigns, event promotion, social media, presentations, promotional collateral, exhibit materials, signage, infographics, data visualization, video, photos, podcasts, audio, animations, public relations, etc.
  • Work with team members to develop and maintain an Aerospace Engineering branding style guide, and to ensure consistent usage of the branding image.
  • Adhere to Aerospace Engineering, College of Engineering, and University design standards.

Website Design and Management: (35%) Work in close collaboration with leadership to develop and implement effective, engaging, and innovative solutions for Aerospace Engineering's websites.

Includes:
  • Work with personnel, participants, and stakeholders to determine the needs and specifications for user-oriented website design.
  • Collaboratively plan, design, build, deploy, update, and maintain the Aerospace Engineering website
  • Establish processes to ensure the overall quality of websites, with timely and appropriate content updates.
  • Create and implement concepts for standardized web templates and components.
  • Perform website functionality upgrades, publishing, links maintenance, site animation integrity, etc.
  • Optimize website SEO (headlines, meta tags, page titles, alt tags, descriptions, etc.).
  • Perform website analytics, engage in other feedback mechanisms, and provide relevant management reports.
  • Work with the College of Engineering on the utilization of the content management system (CMS), user interface features, and any software application programming interfaces (APIs) required to communicate between systems.
  • Work with the IT team on the integration of the website with administrative and student systems, content management systems, design and develop user interface features, implement accessibility standards, and other related activities.

Multimedia Production: (20%) Collaborate with leadership to determine multimedia needs for all messaging channels and strategies, and ensure alignment with other efforts and branding. Produce high quality original photographs, videos, audio, podcasts, etc. for a wide variety of marketing, communications, promotional, and program purposes.

Includes:
  • Produce and Edit photo/video/audio media for appropriate use in multiple mediums, and curate and maintain media content in an organized manner.
  • Supplement with stock photos, video clips, music, graphics, etc. that are appropriate to Aerospace Engineering's messaging, and manage licensing and usage compliance.

Overall Strategic Implementation: (5%)
  • Contribute to overall Aerospace Engineering's program development and awareness through activities such as gathering information and preparing it to be clearly and effectively presented to various audiences.
  • Assist with special projects that help promote and support Aerospace Engineering's vision, mission, goals, and strategies.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in art, graphic design, multimedia, communications, digital media, web design, or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in multimedia and web design, development, and implementation.
  • Excellent multimedia and web design skills as demonstrated by a portfolio of work that is original, creative, imaginative, and innovative.
  • Professional experience creating and executing marketing and communications strategies for internal and external audiences utilizing multi-media, digital, and traditional channels.
  • Demonstrated excellent skills and experience in a professional setting with multimedia-related software applications: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Adobe, video/audio-editing software (i.e. Premier), etc.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in original photography, videography, audio, podcasting, and editing.
  • Demonstrated professional experience working with front-end web-related software, content management systems and tools such as Word Press, HTML, XHTML, or CSS.
  • Experience in web page SEO optimization including headlines, meta tags, page titles, alt tags, description, etc.
  • Demonstrated professional experience working with digital tools and technologies such as Google Analytics, GetResponse, and all social media, LinkedIn, Google AdWords, etc.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Docs, and other productivity tools.
  • Solid working knowledge of branding development and standards, style guidelines, digital and print collateral requirements, and related processes.
  • Excellent project management, organizational, analytical, creative, and critical thinking skills involving multi-faceted initiatives, with a demonstrated ability to successfully meet deadlines and strategy goals.
  • Strong collaborative working style with the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team in a flexible, dynamic environment, and to contribute to a positive work environment that values respect, listening, and learning.
  • Awareness of best practices in fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and working with diverse groups of people.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Experience in a higher education setting preferred.
  • An awareness of engineering fields and/or computer programming is a plus.

Additional Information
Rate of pay will be determined by qualifications and level of experience but will range from $24.00 to $37.50 per hour. This position is part-time, 20 hours per week.
