MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR (Public Affairs Communication Specialist)

Primary Duties:
Working independently, under the general supervision of the Director of University Public Engagement (UPE), the Marketing and Communications Coordinator develops, coordinates, and facilitates the implementation of marketing campaigns, branding, and public and campus messaging for University Public Engagement (UPE) with a primary focus on Chico Performances and Commencement. Incumbent develops marketing and public relations strategies and materials to successfully promote UPE/Chico Performances with a goal of selling tickets and creating a positive public image in support of the mission and business model of Chico Performances. Incumbent serves as the Production Coordinator of the annual Arts & Ideas campus arts and culture brochure/ Chico Performances season brochure. Incumbent develops positive working relationships with external and internal stakeholders, such as patrons, artists, artists' representatives, community media outlets, corporate sponsors, university staff and faculty and works collaboratively with the UPE management team, to achieve marketing, sales, and engagement goals for the department.

Required Education:

This position requires current knowledge of the fundamentals of marketing and marketing research, public affairs and/or media relations as well as strong written and verbal communications skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and the composition of various communication vehicles. These qualifications and those listed above would typically be obtained through equivalent to a Bachelors degree from an accredited institution of higher education including relevant coursework in the field.
AND
Three years directly related professional experience in organizational communications, media, marketing, or public relations.

  • California State University, Chico, in accordance with CSU policy, requires that the successful candidate complete a background check (including a criminal records check/and or fingerprinting) prior to assuming this position. This position is considered a sensitive position based on CSU guidelines. Incumbent is responsible for the safety and security of Level 1 data, sometimes also referred to as Level 1 protected data. This is confidential information that is in most cases protected by statutes, regulations, or other legal mandates.
  • The duties of this position will include participation in a decision that may have a material/financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, this is a designated position under the California State Universitys Conflict of Interest Code and the incumbent will be required to file a Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest and is subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission. (Group/Category: Procurement Card Holder, 2) Note this designation is applicable only if Procurement Card is issued.
  • Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Drivers License as well as continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Drivers Training course.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position typically alternates between remaining in a stationary position operating a personal computer for long periods of time and frequently moving about inside the office which may include standing, bending and occasionally lifting up to 30 pounds, must be able to identify and distinguish colors. Must be able to travel across campus to other offices and buildings on and off campus for meetings and events.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The office is a typical office environment with standard office equipment. A fast-paced environment which requires as needed early morning, evening or weekend hours to meet time certain deadlines. May be required to travel or occasionally work outside. Locations may include even and uneven walking surfaces, exposure to weather changes such as temperatures, humidity or precipitation.
