Library Assistant IV - Digital Projects

Job Summary:

The Library Assistant for Digital Projects provides technical processing support for the digitization office, such as scanning and image processing, basic Institutional Repository administration, and other LA IV duties that require an understanding of the library, its collections, classification scheme, catalog, and computer systems. Works independently with minimum supervision, exercises independent judgment, consults and makes decisions or recommendations regarding the daily functioning of the digitization office. This includes policies or operational procedures. Reports to Digital Program Librarian.

Office/Location: Gleeson Library/Geschke Center - Digital Collections & Scholarly Communications Department
Work Hours: 37.5 hours/week
Weekly Schedule: Monday - Friday
Library and shift hours are subject to change.

Job Responsibilities:

Perform day-to-day tasks necessary to digitize selections of the USF Gleeson library collection using various types of scanners.
Assist Digital Program Librarian in prioritizing and implementing multiple digitization
projects.
Supervise student assistants working in the Digitization Office.
Establish and maintain documentation of workflows, procedures, and policies for scanning/digitization and operations in the digitization office.
Maintain the scanning equipment and office supplies in the Digitization Office, contact
vendors as needed for support and training.
Review and post Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETD) submissions into the Institutional Repository (IR).
Help identify, check and clear rights for new faculty publications to be added to the IR.
Maintain the spreadsheets for tracking faculty publications.
Collect and track statistics for digitization office operations, such as the number of theses scanned and new works posted to the IR.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

An equivalent of three years of experience in a number of library operations and four years of higher education (120 units), or equivalent. The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding organizational skills including the ability to create and maintain records with great attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work with a diverse group of people. Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem solving skills. Self-motivated, flexible and capable of working independently with a minimum of supervision.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Experience working in an academic library with automated systems (e.g., Innovative Interfaces Sierra), large-format book scanning system and image processing software preferred.
Knowledge of institutional repositories or library digital asset management systems a huge plus.
