About the Position:
The Facilities Management Department is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high quality learning and working environment for the campus community. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Lead Carpenter. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under supervision of the Building Trades Manager, the Lead Carpenter assists the Supervising Carpenter and supervises a small group of skilled Carpenters and semi-skilled assistants involved in repair, maintenance, construction, and modifications of university facilities. The Lead Carpenter instructs others in safety rules and ensures that rules are observed and in accordance with established safety procedures. Maintains records and retrieves data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems. Provides instruction and lead direction to unskilled and semiskilled assistants. Provides direction with internal and external structures including dry wall, ceiling and floor tiles, roofs, cabinets, counters, shelves, partitions, floors, etc. Advises in the selection and storage of building materials. Inspects completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building safety codes and regulations. On specific projects, may coordinate the work of other skilled crafts workers. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in a leadership role with a minimum of two (2) years journey-level experience as a Carpenter. Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in both rough and finished carpentry, as well as various types and grades of lumber, as well as hand and power carpentry tools. Thorough knowledge of applicable state safety codes and regulations pertaining to the carpentry trade, including the Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety for the State of California and California State Building Codes. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications. Previous leadership and supervisory skills. Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Experience in computer applications related to Facilities Management.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
