Position Description
Contributes to the university's mission through teaching, research and service, some variation by academic unit.

Major/Essential Functions
The School of Theatre and Dance seeks applications for part-time instructors of playwriting for the 2021-2022 school year. Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students is highly desirable. There is a possibility of teaching courses through online modality. Responsibilities to include:
  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in playwriting including one or more of the following: Playwriting Workshop, Script Analysis, Intro to Playwriting, Screenwriting, Writing for Television, Writing for Digital Media, or Special Problems courses with a focus relating to the research and artistic practice of the instructor.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate playwrights and dramaturgs
  • Contribute to the mission of the school as a colleague



Required Qualifications
Ability to teach effectively. Job assignment can be full-time or part-time depending on the needs of the department. This position will be classified as Security Sensitive and requires a criminal background check if selected for employment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • MFA or PhD in Playwriting, Theatre, or theatre-related discipline.
  • Prior university teaching experience.
  • Prior experience in the professional theatre industry.
  • Minimum of Master of Arts in Theatre or related field or commiserate experience.
