INSTRUCTIONAL LAB TECHNICIAN-HORTICULTURE

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Dean of the School of Business and Technology, provide quality maintenance and care of the horticultural field site and its equipment and support the instructional staff by assisting with laboratory experiences.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1. Assist students in the technical aspects of lab procedures; prepare, set up, disassemble and maintain lab materials.
2. Inventory supplies and equipment; receive, stock and maintain supplies and equipment.
3. Operate a variety of lab instruments and equipment; maintain grounds maintenance equipment and apparatus in a clean, operating and orderly condition, performing minor repairs as necessary, including minor repairs on small engines.
4. Prepare laboratories for student experiments as directed by faculty.
5. Maintain weed control; mix and apply insecticides, fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides and sprays.
6. Maintain watering schedule; replace and repair sprinkler heads and install sprinkler/irrigation systems.
7. Prepare soil mixtures or pots for potting; prepare plant materials for transplanting.
8. Assist instructors in maintaining greenhouse, shade house, hydroponic house and nursery plot.
9. Administer first aid as necessary.
10. Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above and two years of technical training and experience in the area of assignment.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of, or ability to obtain within the first six months of employment, a valid Pesticides Applicator's Certification.
SALARY & BENEFITS:
Range 24, Steps 1-6, $4,207.00-$5,118.00. Initial placement for external applicants is Step 1. An excellent benefits package which includes medical, vision, dental, retirement, vacation, generous sick leave package, and life insurance is available for the employee and eligible dependents.

WORKING DAYS & HOURS:
Tuesday-Saturday: 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (Approximately). Work schedule may be adjusted to meet the needs of the school.

STARTING DATE: As soon as the successful candidate is identified and following the subsequent governing board approval.
