Job Description:



  • Position Code: GRSWC

  • Job Type: Full Time

  • Hours: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

  • Schedule: Monday - Friday

  • Position Location: Longmeadow, MA


Job Summary:


This position will perform routine and semi-skilled grounds and building maintenance assignments to all University properties to help maintain established University standards. This position will primarily be assigned to grounds maintenance, but will also be assigned to building maintenance and custodial duties as needed. Will operate and maintain related equipment. Position is required to work overtime, including weekends when needed. Must be flexible and a team player.


Essential Duties:



  • All aspects of lawn care including but not limited to mowing, trimming, fertilization, seeding, thatching, irrigation, raking, leaf removal.

  • All aspects of landscaping, plant and tree care including but not limited to planting, pruning, mulching, weeding, fertilization.

  • Upkeep of all hard surfaces including driveways, parking lots, sidewalks, patios and steps including but not limited to, snow and ice removal, sweeping, blowing, edging, repairs.

  • Maintenance to university vehicles and grounds equipment including but not limited to cleaning, checking fluid levels, oil changes, small repairs.

  • All aspects of custodial assignments including but not limited to, carpet care, floor care, restroom care, window cleaning, wall cleaning and waste removal.

  • Various light building maintenance assignments including but not limited to, painting, minor repairs or service.

  • Assist with material handling, making deliveries, moving furniture and equipment, etc.

  • This position is considered essential personnel. In the event of cancellation or delay of classes for any reason, essential personnel staff may be required to report to work. All essential personnel staff is responsible for reporting to work during and beyond their standard workweek days/hours due to inclement weather, emergency situations and special events as determined by the University or its designee.

  • Assist with special events preparations.

  • Required proper and safe use of misc. power tools, power equipment and all types of vehicles.

  • Run errands to pick up or deliver materials, etc. off campus, if required.

  • Must obtain hoisting license from the Department of Public Safety within one (1) year from date employment begins.



Requirements:



  • Equivalent to High School education with vocational trade education and previous experience.

  • Must have related experience in grounds maintenance.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instruction.

  • Hoisting license preferred but not required at time of hire.

  • General knowledge of mechanical maintenance of small engines and vehicles.

  • Commercial landscape and irrigation experience preferred but not required.

  • General knowledge of OSHA regulations

  • Ability to understand and apply the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, specifications, standards and guidelines governing the department.

  • Ability to learn and perform all essential job functions accurately and safely with minimal direct supervision, within (90) days from date employee begins work.

  • Ability to establish and maintain professional, harmonious working relationships with co-workers and vendors.

  • Valid U.S. driver's license.

  • Must successfully pass the online safe Driving Course and driving record check at time of hire (within 15-days) and annually thereafter.

  • Must successfully pass safe driving course within 15-days of employment. Failure to successfully complete the course within the time required is grounds for immediate termination.

  • Submit to and pass criminal offender records check (C.O.R.I.)

  • Submit to and pass pre-employment drug screening and physical duties test.

  • Ability to adhere to University policies and procedures.

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

  • General knowledge of the University's mission, purpose, and goals and the role this position plays in achieving those goals.
