Grant/Financial Aid Accountant

Salary for Announcement: The hiring range is $47,337 $57,313. The final salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Position Summary:
This position provides accounting and technical support for the Grants and Contracts department in Accounting Services by assisting in the post award process of managing federal, state, private, and local grants and contracts. This includes managing grant files, indirect cost recovery (ICR) calculation confirmations, reconciling grant funds, invoicing, and interaction with internal customers. This position includes a close working relationship with the Financial Aid Office and the Perkin's Loan Administrator for monthly journal entries and reconciliation of funds.

Duties/Responsibilities:
20% Maintains audit of all grant and contract files. Responsible for ensuring all required documentation and budgets are received. Performs monthly ICR calculations for system accuracy. Confirms complete and accurate Fund code setups. Assists in timely grant close out process. This includes reconciliation of grant funds and proper journal entries.

40% Creates and submits all Federal Work study, grant and contract billings and serves as point of contact for these services. Contacts agencies for late payments. Maintains Grant A/R Aging Report. Serves as backup to Grant Accountant when needed. Reconciles monthly all federal grants draws such as G5, ASAP, and Fastlane. Maintains up to date funding amounts of awards. Assists with Federal Financial Reports. Assists as point of contact with Grant Accountant ensuring timely responses to inquiries from the department email address. Serves as point of contact for all incoming Grant/Financial Aid/. Records transactions timely.

20% Serves as Financial Aid and Perkins Loan specialist. Analyzes reports, prepares journal entries and reconciles funds monthly. Works closed with Financial Aid and the Bursars office. Initiates return of funds as requested or needed. Duties are heightened during spring semester prior to fiscal year end.

10% Assist with the creation of the Principal Investigator (PI) workbook, a financial report provided to PIs. Maintains working PI workbooks by updating and confirming balances weekly.

10% Serves as backup to Grant Accountant. Other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Accounting or equivalent education and related work experience.

Reconciliation experience.

Experience with MS Office Suite with a focus in Excel.

Experience providing customer service.

Experience keeping and maintaining files.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Banner Finance or related financial database system.

Professional experience working with Financial Aid.

Experience working in a fast paced environment.

Ability to organize.

The successful candidate must work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population.

Experience maintaining various projects simultaneously.

Experience working with federal, state and local grants.
