FINANCIAL AID ADVISOR (Student Services Professional II)

Primary Duties:
Working under general supervision of the Scholarship Coordinator, the Scholarship Specialist performs moderately complex professional Student Services work that typically requires the application of both knowledge and judgment in using the principles, techniques, standards, guides and professional skills characteristic of student financial aid services. This position advises students on various aspects of scholarship matters including searching for scholarships, writing scholarship applications and essays, seeking letters of recommendation, coordinating scholarships with other federal, state, and institutional financial aid. This position is also responsible for individual and group informational and training presentations to students, staff, faculty, and administrators as well as functional support of Scholarship Vendor Software related to the CSU, Chico Scholarship Program and processing of external scholarships.

Required Education:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field.
AND
Two years of full-time professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.

A Masters degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience. Additional specialized experience which demonstrates the applicant has successfully applied the knowledge and abilities of a Student Services professional may also be substituted for required education on a year-for year basis.

Special Requirements:

California State University, Chico, in accordance with CSU policy, requires that the successful candidate complete a background check (including a criminal records check, sexual offender registry check, and/or fingerprinting) prior to assuming this position. Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Drivers License as well as continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Drivers Training course.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position alternates between remaining in a stationary position operating a personal computer for long periods of time and frequently moving about inside the office. Must be able to travel across campus to other offices and buildings on campus for meetings and events. Some lightweight lifting of objects up to 10 lbs. is required. Does include group work and may need to work weekends and evenings.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a typical office environment operating standard office equipment. Position involves frequent interaction with students, parents, staff, and faculty to perform student advising and services support functions. Working independently and as a team member, incumbent performs detailed work requiring high levels of accuracy in a fast-paced, changing environment.
