Job Summary/Basic Function:
Everett Community College has an opening for a tenure-track English instructor beginning Fall Quarter 2019. The position reports to the Dean of Communication and Social Sciences.

Primary teaching responsibilities include first year English writing/composition courses using a variety of lecture, discussion, demonstration, self-paced, technology-based, distance-learning, and collaborative formats.

Other specific duties include: develop and coordinate curriculum to improve student success and retention in English writing/composition; identify and implement procedures/techniques to assess individual student learning, as well as course, program, and college learning outcomes; maintain regularly scheduled office hours for the purpose of assisting, advising, and mentoring students enrolled in English courses; assist with the development of curriculum to meet the changing educational needs of students; provide faculty professional development in working with writers; collaborate with faculty and staff on department, division and campus-wide projects; participate in all other tasks related to instruction in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and College policies.

Minimum Qualifications:
-Masters degree in English, English Education, Composition and Rhetoric, or a related field from an accredited institution
-Documented competence and the equivalent of at least three years of full-time teaching experience of first year English writing/composition at the college level
-A philosophy of education consistent with the current methodologies and pedagogies in first year English writing/composition
-Demonstrated experience and/or classroom strategies for effectively instructing students from diverse backgrounds, including differences in culture, heritage, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, ability, class, and religion
-Knowledge of educational technologies
-Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English
-Demonstrated and/or documented contributions to department, division and campus-wide projects and initiatives such as placement, assessment, grant initiatives, accreditation, and Guided Pathways

Preferred Qualifications:
-PhD in composition/rhetoric
-Documented interest and/or experience in Writing Across the Curriculum, students with disabilities, and ESL initiatives
-Documented excellence in teaching English writing/composition at a community college, such as student and supervisor evaluations
-Familiarity with, and experience in implementing and current methods of improving success of students in first year English writing/composition
-Demonstrated experience with writing program development
