DESCRIPTION

Mendocino-Lake Community College District is currently accepting applications for a EOPS Specialist to work in our EOPS Department.

Under direction of the department manager, serves as a lead worker for Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS),Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE), and NextUP; assists students with the application process; determines eligibility and awards; tracks students; prepares related reports.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary Range (25): The monthly starting salary range is $4,447 - $4,669. There are six annual step movements; initial placement will be at step 1, unless approved by the Superintendent/President.

Benefits: With no monthly premium contribution from the employee, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes family medical, dental, vision, EAP benefits and employee life insurance. Additional voluntary life insurance is available for employee purchase. Benefits are effective the first of the month following hire date.

Holidays and Paid Time Off: The successful candidate will earn twelve (12) days of vacation and twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. Vacation leave increases with the length of service. There are twenty (20) paid holidays annually.

Retirement: This position is eligible for CalPERS Retirement.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The successful candidate will support institutional success by executing the following duties:

  • Serves as a lead worker for EOPS & associated programs; assists with program planning, operations, and reporting by providing information, suggestions and statistics;
  • Interprets and implements rules, regulations, policies, and procedures for associated programs; assures program compliance by integrating statutory changes into the delivery; system; provides related training for staff;
  • Coordinates activities; resolves questions and issues; communicates with faculty, staff, students, and other individuals and organizations to provide program information and assistance; may refer students to other related programs;
  • Plans and conducts program application workshops for students and parents and orientation sessions for students.;
  • Assists students in completing the associated program application process; processes incoming documentation to determine if it is complete and acceptable; determines eligibility and awards; assists in resolving eligibility issues. Screens applications to determine program eligibility and eligibility for other related programs;
  • Coordinates the CARE program; determines CARE eligibility of students; reviews and recommends petitions; prepares grant payments. Develops and conducts recruitment and other activities for the CARE program;
  • Coordinates the NextUp program; determines eligibility of students; reviews and recommends petitions; prepares grant payments. Develops and conducts recruitment and other activities for the NextUP program;
  • Coordinates services with community and county agencies for former and current foster youth; including referrals for housing, mental and physical health needs, employment, and other support programs and services;
  • Notifies students of program eligibility; interviews and advises them regarding their rights, responsibilities, awards, academic progress, policies, and procedures under the associated program;
  • Develops, revises, and maintains computer databases to track students; provides statistical information;
  • Order supplies, prepare purchase orders, budget transfers, and other fiscal related forms;
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of correspondence, reports, documents, and forms; maintains and organizes records and files;
  • Prepares for audits and program review as needed; assists in resolving related issues;
  • Answers telephones and assists at the counter in answering questions, scheduling appointments, completing forms;
  • Operates a variety of office equipment including a computer and related software, typewriter, calculator, copier, and others as applicable;
  • Provides oversight and work direction to student employees and short term non-continuing STNCS; trains and provides work direction to others as assigned;
  • Attends meetings and conferences;
  • Participates in special Student Services outreach activities as assigned;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STANDARDS:
The following physical and mental standards are identified as necessary to perform the essential duties and responsibilities. However, reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

  • Mobility: frequent sitting for long periods; frequent walking and standing; occasional reaching above and below desk level; frequent balancing on varied surfaces.

  • Lifting: frequent lifting of papers, files, equipment and material weighing up to 15 pounds; may lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Customer service environment; subject to interruptions and distractions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring; including but not limited to a Live Scan background check and completion of TB Test.

Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, geographic and ethnic backgrounds of students, staff, and faculty.
