Job Description:
The Blue Cross Blue Shield Center for Rural Behavioral Health has been established within the College of Allied Health and Nursing at Minnesota State University, Mankato. The Center is dedicated to improving access to behavioral healthcare for residents of outstate Minnesota to include Tribal Communities, through research, workforce development, continuing education and customized training. The Center is supported by the College of Allied Health and Nursing, generous donations from vested industry partners, grants, and with a onetime state appropriation through the Department of Human Services to establish a community behavioral health center and training clinic. The clinic will be a collaborative effort across academic programs in social work, counseling and student personnel, alcohol and drug studies, psychology, and nursing where student clinicians work under the supervisions of experienced faculty and clinicians. Clinical services will include comprehensive, culturally relevant, trauma-informed, practice- and evidence-based, person- and family-centered mental health and substance use disorder treatment services in Blue Earth County and to residents of the surrounding region. The clinic is under development and slated to open Fall 2024. The position will direct the overall mission of the Center across research, education workforce development, and clinical services.
  • The position will be approximately 50-75% Center Director and 25-50% teaching assignment.



  • A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.

  • The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.

  • May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university's additional locations, as assigned.

  • The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.

  • All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement).

  • Provide vision, direction, and oversight to the Center for Rural Behavioral Health in research, education and workforce development, and clinical services.

  • Engage internal and external university partners to advance the mission of the Center and its constituents (region, state and industry sectors).

  • Launch and coordinate with partners research projects, programs, and outreach initiatives with potential to promote and improve the mental health of rural communities and greater Minnesota.

  • Support faculty, students and partners in research, education and clinical initiatives related to rural mental health.

  • Provide guidance and encouragement for faculty in developing education, practice, and research initiatives that align with the mission of the Center.

  • Facilitate communication among internal and external partners (faculty across the university, administration, advancement officers, and other colleges and programs).

  • Guide the creation and implementation of the strategic plans with local, regional, and national foci that aligns with the Center mission.

  • Consult and collaborate with the Center for Rural Behavioral Health Advisory Board, Steering Committee, and external experts regarding the Center's operation and direction.

  • Develop external grant funded opportunities to expand clinical services, research, and education.




Required Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in behavioral health or related field (Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, etc.).



  • Eligible to practice independently as a mental health professional (e.g., LP, LICSW, LADC, LMFT, LPCC, DNP, MD) or ability to obtain licensure within Minnesota.

  • Minimum of two years of experience in practicing in the mental health or public health sector.

  • Demonstrated record of budget management, grant writing and grant management.

  • Demonstrated record of interprofessional collaborations in clinical practice or scholarship.

  • Demonstrated commitment to or engagement with rural communities.

  • Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse population and apply an equity lens to this position including social justice and/or anti-racism.




Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.



  • Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.

  • Doctorate in behavioral health or related field (Conferred on an official transcript at the time of application.)

  • Board-approved clinical supervisor status for one or more licensure boards or eligibility for approval and two or more years of experience in providing clinical supervision.

  • Prior teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level.
