Overview:
Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, the Director of Student Conduct manages the university wide conduct/judicial processes for individual students and student organizations (including Greek Life). The Director of Student Conduct manages cases of allegations of the Student Code of Conduct/Title V of the California Code of Regulations and relevant executive orders, and recommending disciplinary sanctions, educational and reconciliatory when appropriate. The incumbent is also is key in providing advice and educational resources related to student behavior to faculty and staff.
Compensation:
The salary is competitive and is negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications. This is a CSU Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position with an attractive benefits package which includes but is not limited to: a vacation accrual rate of 16 hours per month; 12+ paid holidays; excellent choice of medical, dental and vision insurance, long term disability coverage, life insurance; and retirement benefits.
Position Summary:
Major duties of the job include:
Proven ability to work closely with faculty, staff, students and other campus constituents
Serve as conduct officer and/or investigator in cases of allegations of violations of the Student Code of conduct
Prepare investigation reports, and resolution agreements
Serve as primary investigator in allegations of violations by student organizations, including Greek Life
Provides ongoing training to faculty and staff related to the Student Code of Conduct and handling student incidents
Assist students in resolving complaints or issues related to university policies
Assists is dispute resolutions
Work closely with the university Public Safety office
Maintain confidential student records
Interpret and explain university policies and state and federal laws
Administer procedures related to allegations of academic dishonesty
Perform general duties as requested by the dean of students
Develop positive professional relationships with faculty and students
Work closely with Fresno State Housing in disciplinary related cases
Assist with Human Resources investigations as is appropriate
Maintain the Student Handbook
Serve as a member and work closely with the Campus Assessment Response and Evaluation (CARE) Team
Work closely with Student Life Directors in tracking and analyzing student participation and demographic data
Assists with Student Life programs as necessary
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of university policies, regulations, laws, and best practices in the student conduct field.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working with investigating, interviewing and resolving university disciplinary cases
Ability to fully utilize the Maxient database system
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to perform research, compile data, and prepare and present reports or information with reliable conclusions and recommendations for actions.
Ability to manage conduct issues and cases
Ability to provide or reference resources and support to students, faculty, and staff
Ability to provide effective and strong leadership skills to help advance the goals of the department and for advancing the vision of the university as set forth by the President.
Sound knowledge of student development theory and sensitivity to issues and needs of students from low-income, diverse and cultural backgrounds
Demonstrated ability to use good problem solving and conflict resolution skills
Knowledge of regulations related to student conduct procedures and records maintenance
Ability to work collaboratively with a highly diverse contingency of faculty, administrators, staff, and students across campus.
Ability to respond appropriately to student welfare issues
Ability to develop and present workshops for members of the university community regarding student behavior
Thorough knowledge of due process
Education and Experience:
Master's degree in student personnel administration, higher education administration, or a related field
Five years of professional experience in working in student conduct
Specialized Skills:
Knowledge of FERPA regulations and related higher education laws
