About the Position:
The Director of Engagement and Learning will lead the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Programs' (DIEP) efforts to create, coordinate, administer, and evaluate learning opportunities and programming to achieve a sustainably inclusive and supportive environment for a thriving and diverse campus community. The DIEP office provides diversity education, inclusivity programming, business process training, and leadership development services across CSUF faculty, staff, and students. As a key member of the DIEP leadership team, the Director will work collaboratively with a variety of constituents within the University and assist the Assistant Vice President to develop and implement diversity education and programming efforts in alignment with institutional strategic goals. This work achieves and expands the vision of inclusive excellence and supports diversity and inclusion efforts on campus.



Key Responsibilities include:

Creates and promotes programming designed to cultivate an appreciation of diverse ethnic and cultural heritages with the goal of forming a more inclusive campus environment.



Designs, delivers and implements workshops, presentations, and other strategies that promote diversity and inclusion.



Conducts and directs diversity training, professional development, and employee engagement activities in collaboration with other offices and departments including retention programming for staff and faculty.



Monitors national, legal, regulatory, political and intellectual trends in diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education, recommend application and/or impact for the University, and remain current on best practices and emerging trends for inclusion and engagement to inform program and policy development.



Directs efforts to identify and produce special events focused on cultivating an inclusive campus environment including high-profile speakers, conferences, and other types of University programming and learning.



Participates in the implementation of leadership development processes such as succession planning, high potential development and executive development/coaching.



Leads the creation of a leadership development strategy to grow leader capability at all stages - front line/first time managers through executive officers



Leads event planning process, including pre-planning, budgeting, sponsorships, logistics, promotion, and media access, with the goal of producing exceptional and meaningful learning experiences for attendees and for featured guests.



Works with CSUF community and stakeholders to elevate the visibility and maximize the impact of campus diversity efforts, activities, and programs.



Builds strong working relationships with administrators and representatives of key constituencies with the university and within the community.



Provides subject matter expertise related to emerging diversity and inclusion issues throughout the university and local communities.



In conjunction with the Assistant Vice President, designs the assessments, experiences, and learning needed to strengthen the campus leadership pipeline. Responsible for partnering with the Labor and Employee Relations team to design and deploy new manager onboarding experience.



Provides strategy, thought leadership, alignment and measures for leader development initiatives to ensure work is on time, in scope, on budget, and supports strategic goal advancement.



Oversee the coordination of campus business process workshops facilitated by various campus departments. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to diversity and inclusion. Three (3) years of experience involving: Developing programs promoting diversity and inclusion in higher education or in a similarly complex corporate or large non-profit organization. Designing and facilitating multicultural trainings and workshops. Constituent engagement activities to promote belonging and connection to the organization. Knowledge and understanding of diversity issues in complex, decentralized organizations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to facilitate difficult dialogues, effectively listen to all points of view and ability to build consensus on initiatives and issues. Demonstrated experience in leading, planning, and implementing large-scale campus-wide programs.




A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
