Job Description

Under the leadership of the Associate Vice President, Student Affairs, the Director of Career and Transfer Services provides visionary, strategic leadership, supporting and institutionalizing a broad spectrum of career preparation and success initiatives for students, including: educational and skill-development programs; networking, internship, experiential, and employment opportunities; individual career coaching; and pre-professional advising.

The Director, a leadership role within Career and Transfer Services and Student Affairs, is critical in developing a philosophy of students first and implementing innovative student success strategies connecting students to success. The Director works with the Career and Transfer Services team to assist students in developing a sense of self-awareness and skills that will allow them to be successful in their job search, including resume and letter writing, interviewing, and the establishment of a professional career network.

The Director is required to actively cultivate relationships and expand networks with staff, faculty, parents, community partners, and employers throughout the region in order to promote CSN's mission and enhance innovative programs, experiential learning and work opportunities. Additional duties include enhancing student participation with our First Time in College (FTIC) students, working intentionally with the First Year Experience (FYE) Office and various campus partners.

The Director supports CSN student transfers to four-year colleges and universities by developing programs and services that assist students in their transfer exploration and transition. The Director will work closely with representatives from CSN's top feeder schools, assisting to provide CSN students multiple opportunities to meet with transfer institutions. Additional duties include developing relationships with state and regional four-year college and university transfer admissions teams to support CSN student transfer, critical first year of college transition and implementation of the CSN College Pathways model.

Lastly, the Director position is needed to facilitate continuous improvement, ensuring that CSN remains responsive to diverse student interests and evolving market trends and maintaining career readiness and engagement. The Director will be responsible to increase internship opportunities and resources to support students' career preparation and professional aspirations, optimize available technology for communication and delivery of services and resources, and implement effective data collection, analysis, and reporting systems that demonstrate outcomes and inform strategic resource allocation and direction. In a students first approach, the primary drive for this position is the ability to produce cutting edge work in the effort to equip students in being successful. The Career and Transfer Services office is pivotal in laying the foundation for students to build and develop personal and career planning. The Director will lead the vision and efforts in facilitating an experience for students in which they build awareness of their work-related strengths, interests, and values, forming an understanding of the world in which they will live and work.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Counseling, Educational Psychology, Human Resources, Workforce Management and Business, or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 years of leadership/supervisory experience in either Career Service, Workforce or Human Resources.
  • Experience in strategic planning and grant writing/management.
  • Demonstrated awareness of the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) standards for Career Services and ability to apply standards when conducting unit planning and assessment.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of FERPA rules governing privacy in higher education and ability to maintain confidentiality of student records.
  • Ability to understand and apply NSHE and college policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and address challenges affecting college students, effectively apply case management practices, and follow-up appropriately and as needed.
  • Ability to effectively manage staff, lead a team, solve problems, conduct student interviews.
  • Ability to multi-task and communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with co-workers and supervisory chain.
  • Create, prepare and conduct outreach presentations and workshops for students, faculty, staff and community partners; plan events.
