Position Summary:
Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU-Denver) is a diverse serving undergraduate and graduate granting institution with approximately 21,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The Department of Engineering and Engineering Technology is housed in the College of Professional Studies and offers seven types of undergraduate programs: Civil Engineering Technology (CET), Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology (EET), Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET), Sustainable Systems Engineering and Construction Project Management.

The mission of the Department of Engineering and Engineering Technology is to produce quality graduates well versed in the art of applying science to engineering and technological problems, for practical positions in the work place. Their vision is to provide excellence in theoretical and practical instruction to a diverse student population, through a dedicated faculty, and the engagement of key external constituencies, including: employers, industry experts, and professional organizations. The Department operates with the support of three separate Industrial Advisory Boards who support the CET, EET and MET programs. These three boards merge to function as one board for the overall Department of Engineering Technology. Comprised of practicing engineers and senior technical personnel, these boards work with the Department Chair and contribute significantly to the growth and development of programs as a means of assuring technical relevance.

The MSU Denver Department of Engineering and Engineering Technology subscribes to the standards and criteria set forth by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) which is responsible for the specialized accreditation of educational programs in engineering, engineering technology and engineering-related fields. MSU Denver's Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology programs are accredited by the ABET Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission (ETAC)

The Chair of the Department of Engineering and Engineering Technology will lead the department and supervise all faculty and staff. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse, urban student population. The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.

Duties/Responsibilities:
The Chair of the Department of Engineering and Engineering Technology (EAET) responsibilities include:

Ensuring and documenting compliance with the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission

Maintaining the relationship between the EAET Programs and their Advisory Boards, including but not limited to acting as liaison with other programs.

Demonstrating leadership within the faculty for the development, implementation and evaluation of the curriculum and other Engineering Education Program components.

Participating in the budget planning process for and administering the Department of Engineering and Engineering Technology budget.

Recruiting and selecting faculty for employment, designing and monitoring development plans for faculty, conducting performance reviews of faculty, and participating in faculty promotion and retention.

Developing and coordinating the use of educational facilities and resources.

Identifying and advocating for services needed by students in all EAET Programs.

Developing and maintaining ongoing relationships within the community, including fostering the EAET Departments responsiveness to community/employer needs.

Participating in activities that facilitate the Chairs professional expertise in the areas of administration, teaching and maintenance of engineering competence.

Determining the need for additional Faculty release time for administrative duties.

The Chair also carries a teaching load according to ABET requirements with reassigned time for administrative responsibilities.

Must be willing to conduct student assessments as prescribed by the curriculum; participate in program and curriculum development and evaluation; serve on Departmental, College and University committees, participate in the tenure track process by active engagement in scholarly activities that support professional development; and provide service to the community.

The successful candidate must be willing to adhere to policies and procedures regarding students and faculty as established by the University, College and Department.

The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
An earned Doctorate in engineering or a related field from an Engineering Education Program with ABET accreditation.
Documented knowledge and skills related to teaching adults, teaching methodology, curriculum development and curriculum evaluation.
Two years full-time experience or equivalent in teaching in an approved baccalaureate degree level or higher Engineering education program.
Experience managing a budget
Experience hiring, supervising and evaluating of faculty and staff.

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of the engineering workforce/ landscape in Colorado.
Demonstrated experience with successful national re-accreditation of baccalaureate engineering programs.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to secure and effectively manage grants.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Experience fundraising
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups.
Experience working collaboratively across with other departments and with industry.
Experience developing international partnerships
