Job Description:
APPOINTMENT: Start Date 01 July 2020.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Provost, the Dean for University Libraries provides progressive and innovative leadership in managing all library operations including development and implementation of strategic initiatives consistent with the University's mission, vision, values, and strategic directions. The Dean is responsible for policy formation and implementation, budget, personnel, and grant administration. In consultation with the faculty and staff, the Dean carries out the policies supporting the institution's educational mission with a commitment to excellent public service; the ongoing integration of electronic resources with traditional library collections and services; the formulation, implementation, and delivery of library services. The Dean fosters regional and statewide cooperation in sharing of library materials, networking, and collection development. Western Illinois University is an institution that deeply values shared governance; therefore, its dean of university libraries must be able to work with all constituents to develop, articulate, and enact a clear vision for the 21st century library. The dean is a visible and vital representative on internal and external committees at the local, state level and national. Library faculty and staff have a long history of partnering with the campus, fostering student success and offering instruction to complement the curriculum at every level. The dean is expected to build upon these collaborations. The Dean will be responsible for oversight of the Bachelors of General Studies Degree (BGS) program, http://www.wiu.edu/global_education/bgs/. Additionally, the Dean is charged with the overall responsibility for recruitment, evaluation, retention of the library personnel; promotion of professional, communication and developing a climate for good faculty and staff morale. The Dean leads fundraising, development, and leads promotional activities for the University Libraries; the Dean teaches and engages in scholarly activities as appropriate.

RANK & SALARY: The successful candidate will be eligible for the rank of Professor within the Library. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A Master's degree from an ALA accredited program or international equivalent;
A record of academic and professional achievement warranting tenure at the rank of full Professor at Western Illinois University;
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion;
Excellent written and oral communication skills;
Effective planning and collaboration with stakeholders;
Experience working with diverse student population;
Effective fiscal management;
Demonstrated ability to provide vision and leadership toward the achievement of a comprehensive university library's mission and goals;
A strong commitment to the support of teaching and scholarship;
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues in a shared governance environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated creative leadership in a dynamic and fluid teaching, learning, and information environment
Five plus years of administrative experience, including supervision of staff, at the university level;
Experience securing external grant funding or philanthropic funding;
Experience in a collective bargaining environment;
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with internal and external constituencies, including donors and potential donors;
Demonstrated success in innovation.
Experience with a multi-campus environment.
Demonstrated experience in designing transformative workspaces.

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be"in hand" at the time of application.

Additional Information:
THE DEPARTMENT: WIU Libraries is comprised of the main Leslie F. Malpass Library, the Music Library, the Curriculum Library, and the WIU-Quad Cities Library in Moline. WIU Libraries employs a dedicated group of 10 faculty and 20.5 civil service staff. Together the libraries house an extensive collection, deliver online access to thousands of journals, documents, and e-books, offer research assistance both in-person and virtually, and provide library instruction. WIU Libraries is a member of the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois, giving our users easy access to the collections of all 90 other libraries. In addition, WIU Libraries participates in the federal and Illinois depository programs and is a designated Patent and Trademark Resource Center. Archives & Special Collections is the official repository for university records and scholarship, and collects a wealth of materials that document the cultural, economic, and natural heritage of west-central Illinois. The annual budget is $3.78 million.
