ABOUT THE POSITION

Madera Community College Center seeks a dynamic, visionary and equity-minded leader with the experience, work ethic, and academic credentials to actualize our commitment to excellence in student learning, success and equity. The Dean of Instruction will work with a successful, equity-minded, and experienced leadership team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Under the general direction of the Vice President of the Madera and Oakhurst Community College Centers and in accordance with the provisions of the Education Code, the rules, and regulations of the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges, and the policies of the District, the Dean of Instruction will be responsible for the following specific program area: Composition & Literature, Communication, Fine Arts, Social Sciences, Reading and Language, and oversight of the Library and will perform the following duties:
  • Provide leadership to an integrated program that includes basic skills, academic and occupational education, transfer, and pathways in corresponding disciplines;

  • Collaborate with other instructional deans in working with faculty in the planning, implementation, and coordination of the development of the instructional program pathways;

  • Provide sustained leadership in curriculum improvement through regular program review, evaluation, revision, and attention to relevance;

  • Provide leadership in working with faculty to assess student learning outcomes as they relate to courses and programs;

  • Promote the assessment of student outcomes in order to determine the effectiveness of student learning;

  • Work with faculty and administration to ensure resources and staff development are provided to promote student success;

  • Develop course schedules in collaboration with division representatives and schedule teaching assignments;

  • Monitor and manage enrollment and make adjustments to classes according to enrollment trends and fiscal realities;

  • Establish and maintain business and community relationships which benefit instruction;

  • Assist in the hiring and evaluation of faculty and classified staff according to board policies and procedures;

  • Develop budget recommendations and monitor budgets;

  • Provide guidance and leadership for division representatives and faculty;

  • Work collaboratively with student services programs and personnel to initiate collaborative projects between instruction and student services to promote student success;

  • Prepare annual goals, participate in planning activities and facilitate completion of goals;

  • Pursue grant opportunities, complete grant applications, and monitor and report on grants obtained;

  • Participate in regional and statewide educational activities as appropriate;

  • Advise senior administrators concerning workforce development and economic development issues and goals;

  • Facilitate the development of new programs using labor market data to reflect the changing needs in local, regional and state economies;

  • Participate in regional occupational education activities and other regional or statewide activities as appropriate to the division;

  • Prepare all Perkins and related plans and reports as appropriate to the division;

  • Provide leadership for the Library;

  • Coordinate the hiring of personnel, facilities and budget management;

  • Ensure that division's CTE programs meet regularly with associated Advisory Committees and that all agendas, minutes, and plans are kept on file;

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with local K-12 schools, business and community-based organizations which promote and benefit instruction and the programs within the Madera and Oakhurst Community College Centers and Reedley College;

  • Participate as a member of the President's Advisory Council and attend other college and/or district committees as assigned; and

  • Perform additional administrative duties and services as requested and assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Possession of a masters degree AND one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrators administrative assignment;

    OR

  • Possession of a valid California Community College Supervisory Credential.

    AND

  • All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.


Desirable Qualifications:
  • Ability to collaborate with internal constituencies, employers and community agencies in curriculum and program development;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to create a welcoming environment that positively engages and impacts our creative workforce and student population;
  • Equivalent to at least three years of full-time instructional experience in an educational institution;
  • Evidence of a commitment to teaching/learning and the vision of a learning-centered institution and community;
  • An understanding of how technology can support learning and a record of support for technological advancements;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products or with a similar suite of word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentation software;
  • Evidence of application of principles and practices of administrative organization and management, planning, supervising and evaluating the work of others, and employee motivation and training;
  • Demonstrated experience in managing financial resources effectively, including determining how best to utilize resources and managing budgets and expenditures;
  • Evidence of successful management of grants and major projects;
  • Ability to use organizational skills that enable the performance of duties in a timely fashion with attention to detail;
  • Recent experience working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusions of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate ones relational practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
  • Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity;
  • Knowledge of best practices in system structures, programs and services that support educational outcomes for all students;
  • Familiarity with the standards of accreditation established by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC);
  • Familiarity with the statutory and regulatory requirements of California Community Colleges; and
  • Evidence of commitment to the mission of the California Community Colleges and the mission of Reedley College;


Conditions of Employment:
224 and 22 vacation days for a total of 246 days.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary range is $111,355 $138,930 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,021 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance for employees. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement. From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents, a selection committee will determine the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications. They will be invited to interview. The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions. Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the ecommended candidates. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President and President for final interviews. A hiring recommendation will be made by the President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
