About the Position:
Housing and Residential Engagement provides residence hall and apartment style living for students that is safe, clean and convenient. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our custodial services team as a Custodian. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Custodian performs a wide range of custodial and related duties for assigned campus areas. Dusts and cleans all surfaces, removes trash and recyclables, cleans and disinfects restrooms, and replenishes supplies. Cleans glass doors, windows, and blinds as needed. Cleans and maintains assigned areas and performs general housekeeping. Cleans and maintains campus floors, including sweeping, dry and/or wet mopping, stripping, sealing, waxing, polishing, vacuuming, and spot and full cleaning of carpets. Operates and maintains appropriate hand and powered equipment and tools, supplies, and materials. Identifies and organizes necessary work materials and equipment, which may include loading and unloading cleaning supplies and materials. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:
Basic knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work. Ability to read and write at a level appropriate for the duties of the position. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety. Ability to operate and care for custodial equipment and supplies applicable to the position. Ability to use custodial systems such as those used to track work orders and two-way radios for communication. Ability to perform work involving regular physical activity, observe safety requirements, and adhere to safe work practices and methods. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative work relationships. Position may require the ability to safely move up to 50 pounds and/or possession of a valid California drivers license.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
