General:The Department of Criminology seeks applicants for two Assistant Professors within the department's law enforcement option. Successful candidates will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, conduct scholarly and applied research, and engage in service-related activities. Primary teaching responsibilities and research interests will be in the area of law enforcement. Other duties will include, but are not limited to: advising and mentoring criminology students, participating in program development, actively engaging in research and problem-solving activities, grant writing, and committee service at all levels of university governance. Specific assignments will depend upon department needs.

Qualifications:
Required Education: Note: Candidates withonlya J.D. or Ed.D. are not eligible for this position.

  1. Must have an earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in criminology, criminal justice, or a closely related social science discipline from an accredited institution (or foreign equivalent).
  2. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered; however, for an appointment, the doctorate must be completed by August 15, 2020.

Required Experience:

  1. The ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred Experience:

  1. Arecord of excellence in teaching at the university level (experience as an evaluated graduate teaching assistant is acceptable) or teaching potential;
  2. Arecord of scholarly presentations, publications, or research expertise/knowledge in areas related to law enforcement.
  3. Preferred areas of specialization/skills within law enforcement that are of particular interest to the department include:
    1. the use of technology as it relates to policing and/or crime control (e.g., crime mapping, network analysis, information systems)
    2. program evaluation
    3. advanced statistical methods
    4. computer crime, and
    5. current and future challenges to public safety (nationally or internationally).

The Department of Criminology serves the San Joaquin Valley of Central California and the expanding global community (including university students from 90 nations) by offering quality educational opportunities for students at the academic certificate, minor, baccalaureate, and graduate levels. The Department of Criminology enjoys a growing undergraduate population of approximately 1,752 majors and is the largest major at Fresno State. The Department of Criminology requires undergraduate students to select one of four options as a concentration throughout their undergraduate studies: law enforcement, corrections, forensic behavioral sciences, or victimology.
