Job Description
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, the position will be responsible for providing counseling services for the general student population. Regular/contract counselors participate in the planning,
implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advancement of the visions, missions and values of the college and District. This position may include a combination of day and evening assignments, and is being offered by a college strongly committed to the "open door" concept serving a diverse student population. Counselors will be expected to perform other duties consistent with their faculty job description as stated in the faculty contract. NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience and proficiency in educational, career, and personal counseling at a community college, university or clinical setting.
- Training and experience working with individuals and groups in providing personal and crisis counseling.
- Experience in advising students on transfer to four-year institutions.
- Experience that demonstrates active participation in community and professional organizations and institutions of higher education.
- Ability to use technology in providing counseling services.
- Applicants must demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: APPLICANTS MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development; OR
Bachelor's in any of the above and a license as a Marriage, Family, and Child Counselor; OR
Current California Community College Credential that permits full-time service as a Counselor; OR
The equivalent. If you are applying based on "the equivalent", you must complete a Full-Time Academic Equivalency Form as part of the application procedures.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 1 year working with the CalWORKs Program or 2-years experience working in other public or private agencies serving special populations including new immigrants and refugees.
- Experience providing supervision, training, and program planning to professional and student staff.
- Experience coordinating a multifaceted program.
- Experience developing and maintaining liaison between campus programs and community agencies.
