Description:

This is a continuous open pool to fill part-time Counseling: EOPS positions at any of our three colleges (Oxnard, Moorpark, and Ventura) for the Summer 2017, Fall 2017, and Spring 2018 semesters. If you have applied to previous pools in this discipline, you will need to apply to this pool to continue to be considered.

Under the general direction of a dean, a Counselor: EOPS (Non-Contract/Temporary) provides comprehensive counseling, career guidance, and advisement services to students from diverse backgrounds for the purpose of developing and facilitating the attainment of their academic, vocational and personal objectives. In accordance with the provisions of Education Code sections 87482.5, Counselors (Non-Contract/Temporary) may be employed up to 67% of a full-time assignment.

Representative Duties:

Provide comprehensive academic, personal and vocational counseling to students; assist students in developing their educational plans and acquisition of college survival skills; foster academic success to retain students; assist students in the selection of a course of study, major, or certificate program. E

Refer students to appropriate support services, programs, resources, and other professionals based on need and eligibility for assistance; monitor academic progress; and counsel students on academic probation. E

Develop individual plans with students preparing to enter the labor market; identify skill training needs and opportunities for student internship, job search, work experience/work-study and employment. E

Counsel students regarding career choices, goal setting, and decision making; provide information on the matriculation process and program requirements at other colleges or universities. E

Assist in the development of outreach activities to identify and recruit eligible students and facilitate their enrollment in the college. E

Conduct orientation events to familiarize students with the location and function of college programs and services, including the application and registration process, academic and grading standards, college terminology, course add and drop procedures and related rules, and financial aid application procedures. E

Maintain current, accurate records of counseling sessions; assist in compiling statistical data and prepare reports related to program operations, activities, and progress. E

Assist in the preparation of counseling-related publications and presentation of workshops for targeted populations. E

Advocate for students with special needs and collaborate with college instructors, counselors, and other campus and community resources to assist students in the pursuit of their educational goals. E

Assist in the development and implementation of programs focusing on access and retention for targeted populations. E

Provide work direction to others.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook. The minimum qualifications for this discipline are as follows:

*Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, OR the equivalent**, OR possession of an appropriate California Community College Credential.

AND

EOPS counselors hired after October 24, 1987, shall:

(1) Have completed a minimum of nine semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social, or economic disadvantages;

OR

(2) Have completed six semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social, or economic disadvantages;

AND

In addition, an EOPS counselor hired after October 24, 1987, shall have two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social, or economic disadvantages.

All coursework must be from a recognized accredited college or university.

*This is a paraphrased version of title 5, 56264. If there is any conflict between the paraphrased language and the title 5 language, the title 5 language shall prevail.

**Applicants who do not meet the above-stated minimum qualifications must complete the Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency in order to be considered on the basis of possessing equivalent qualifications (equivalency). If the title of your degree as stated on your transcripts does not exactly match one of the degree titles listed in the minimum qualifications, you must complete the Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency. Do not assume that you do not need to submit a Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency because your degree is similar to a degree stated in the minimum qualifications. Degree titles that are not an exact match will not be considered outside of the equivalency process.

Supplemental Information:

SALARY RANGE:
Part-time Non-classroom faculty are paid between $2,082 and $3,537 per semester per .1 load. Placement on the salary schedule is based on education and experience. Faculty may be assigned any combination of lecture, lab or lecture/lab classes. Following is an example of a 3 unit class:
3 hour per week lecture = .2 load
3 hour per week lecture/lab = .15 load
3 hour per week lab = .1333 load (Except for those listed on Appendix F of the VCCCD/AFT Contract calculated at 75% of regular load.)

STARTING SALARY:
$2,082 and $3,017 starting pay per semester per 10% load. Part-time faculty salaries are governed by the collective bargaining agreement between the VENTURA COUNTY FEDERATION OF COLLEGE TEACHERS, AFT, LOCAL 1828, AFL-CIO and the VENTURA COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT. Please be aware that we will require verification of all part-time teaching experience for which you wish to receive credit toward placement on the salary schedule. You will have 30 days to provide verification upon receipt of the offer of employment. Verification must come from the human resources department and state the percentage of full-time-equivalent assignment you worked during the specified time period.

* Complete official or unofficial college/university transcripts demonstrating attainment of minimum qualifications. Transcripts must show the degree title and the date the degree was conferred or the degree will not be considered for the purpose of determining if you meet minimum qualifications. If the qualifying degree has yet to be conferred and you expect to have the degree before you begin employment, you must submit transcripts that state the title of the degree you are working toward obtaining and indicate the anticipated completion date in your response to the associated supplemental question provided during the application process. Diplomas will not be accepted in lieu of transcripts. An official copy of your transcripts will be required upon being hired. Instructors will not be allowed to start working until official transcripts have been received.
