Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Computer Information Science department programs as needed.
  • Advise undergraduate Majors of CIS department.
  • Supervise/advise graduate students.
  • Conduct research productively and mentor students in research.
  • Obtain funding for curriculum innovation and/or research individually or collaboratively.
  • Conduct continuous research and development in area(s) of specialization.
  • Provide service to the university and community.
  • A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twelve (12) credits per semester of instruction.
  • The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.
  • May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university's additional locations, as assigned.
  • The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.
  • All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (see Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement).


Required Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Computer Science or a closely related field, confirmed on an official transcript and received in Human Resources by August 1, 2019.
  • Demonstrated success in or potential for delivering quality instruction at the university level in two or more of the following areas: Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Architecture, Operating Systems, Data Science, Human Computer Interaction.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
  • Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.
  • University/college teaching experience at undergraduate and/or graduate level.
  • Knowledge and experience in project based teaching.
  • Record of professional development of undergraduate and/or graduate students through advising and research mentoring.
  • Record of procuring funding from external sources.
  • Record of collaboration.
  • Industry experience and/or professional certifications.
  • Compatibility of research with Minnesota State University, Mankato's infrastructure.


Additional Information

The Computer Information Science Department offers cutting edge programs and is an innovator in new curricula. We will be offering one of the first project based learning CS programs in the country. Applications from qualified candidates who are currently in industrial positions are also welcomed, and appropriate weighting will be given to demonstrated success in teaching and research in industrial settings. The Computer Information Science Department, located in the Mankato campus, is comprised of ten full-time faculty members actively engaged in teaching, research and service. The department offers three undergraduate programs: Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Information Technology (CIT) and Computer Application Development, two master's degree programs: Data Science MS and Information Technology MS, a Professional Science Master's in Information Security & Risk Management, as well as minors and certificates for students with varying interests and backgrounds.
