Job Summary:
Cuyamaca College is hiring two counselors, one for CalWORKs and one for EOPS. Please specify which position(s) you are applying for on the supplemental materials form.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, the position will be responsible for providing counseling services for either the CalWORKs or EOPS populations. Regular/contract counselors participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advancement of the visions, missions and values of the college and District. This position may include a combination of day and evening assignments, large lectures and small seminars, and is being offered by a college strongly committed to the "open door" concept serving a diverse student population. CalWORKs and EOPS Counselors will be expected to perform other duties consistent with their faculty job description as stated in the faculty contract.

Minimum Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: APPLICANTS MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development (CalWORKs & EOPS); AND/OR

A minimum of 6 semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons affected by language, or socioeconomic disadvantages (EOPS); OR

Six semester units or equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a community college EOPS program, or a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons affected by language, social, or economic disadvantages (EOPS); AND

Two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons affected by language, social, or economic disadvantages (EOPS); OR

The equivalent.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience and proficiency in academic, career, and personal counseling at a community college, university, or clinical setting with CalWORKs/EOPS populations.

Training and experience working with individuals and groups in providing personal and crisis counseling.

Experience in advising students on Associate Degree, Certificate, and transfer to four-year institutions.

Ability to use technology in providing counseling services.

Applicants must demonstrate sensitivity and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender/sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications:
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of one year working with CalWORKs and/or EOPS students.

Experience conducting counseling-related workshops, orientations, and teaching counseling-related courses.

Experience that demonstrates active participation in the campus and broader community including serving on departmental and college committees, and taking a leadership role in campus, community and professional organizations and committees.

Experience providing supervision, training, and program planning to professional staff.

Experience coordinating a multifaceted program including outreach to high schools, middle schools, and community agencies.

Bilingual preferred; English/Arabic and/or English/Spanish.
